It is my privilege to be a part of the guidance counseling department at Mira Costa High School. I have taught English in Germany, was a school counselor at a private high school in Orange County, and before that a school counselor then assistant principal at public and charter high schools in Watts. I plan to draw on those varied experiences to meet the academic, personal, social and career needs of my students. My personal philosophy in counseling is guided by the question, "What is best for the student?"

Emily Sommer graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a major in Psychology and a minor in Women's Studies, and CSU Long Beach with a MS in Counseling and a Pupil Personnel Services credential.
