STUDENT INFO           

·        Winter Formal Tickets are on sale now in the Student Store. Come by during snack or lunch to pick up your permission form.  Prices go up after Friday so get your tickets now. Ticket vouchers are also available on the ASB Webstore.

·        What’s hilarious, constantly surprising, and based on your suggestions? Tonight’s Play, MCHS’s first fully improvised play! Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students, and can be purchased online at miracostadramaboosters.org, in Room 1, or at the door. This awesome event runs this weekend only – 7:30pm Friday and 2pm & 7:30pm Saturday – so don’t miss out!

·        Students who have excused periods (other than zero period): Off-grounds stickers are available starting Monday, 1/23 in the main office at snack, lunch, or before or after school ONLY. You MUST have a current school ID to get a sticker.

·        AP Students: Registration for the Advanced Placement exams will take place Jan. 23 through Jan. 27 during lunch only at the Student Store. The registration fee is $98 per exam. Late registration will be held Jan. 30 through Feb. 3 during lunch only at the Student Store, but an extra $15 late fee for each exam will be charged. Be sure to bring your completed blue worksheet indicating the exams you will be taking, cash or check made out to MCHS for the reg fee, and a pen to complete the actual reg form. New This Year: Online registration also available beginning TODAY. Go to ASB webstore on the MCHS website. A credit card is required for online registration.

·        Attention all students: Talent Show Auditions are Thursday 1/19 from 3 – 7:15 pm in the Auditorium. Please come by Room 40 or 41 for additional info and sign-up sheets. The Talent Show is Thursday, Jan. 26.

·     Need Community Service Hours? Our first Lunches with Love delivery of the year is Sunday, Jan. 22. We feed the homeless on Skid Row with your bagged lunches. Five lunches = one community service hour. We are also holding a toiletry drive. Please collect mini or full size toiletries from friends, family, school, church for our Feb. delivery. ·     Hermosa Valley School is looking for HVS alumni to be Cabin Leaders for the 6th Grade Outdoor Science School in Malibu. Outdoor School will take place from Monday, Mar. 13 to Friday, Mar. 17. Cabin leaders can earn 100 community service hours. The applicant deadline is Friday, Jan. 27, so that we can have a crew and alternates in place. CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·     If you’d like to contribute to social inclusion and help represent different cultures, submit a proposal to the Our Beauty Convention! You can propose a monologue, video, song, poem, or any other creative idea. Submission forms can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/hg63roq.

SPORTS

·     Swim Team Tryouts for all new and returning swimmers will be held Thursday, Jan. 26 at 2 pm. There will be a make-up tryout offered on Monday, Jan. 31 at 7:00 am. We want to encourage all swimmers, including club swimmers and water polo players, to try out and participate this season. A parent meeting will be held TONIGHT in the small auditorium from 6 – 7:30 pm. If you have any questions, please reach out to Head Swim Coach Ali Isham at [email protected].

·     Final tryouts for Girls’ Lacrosse will be TODAY, Wednesday, 1/18 from 6 to 8 pm at the stadium. Players must attend both days of tryouts. Please bring a mouth-guard (mandatory), lacrosse stick, goggles, cleats and running shoes.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      PSAT SCORE PICK-UP If you took the October 19th PSAT, your score sheets are now available for pick-up in the CCC.

·      SeniorsThe MCHS Scholarship Notebook Program will begin this month. If you wish to participate, you will be required to attend ONE of the MANDATORY January lunchtime meetings (1/18 OR 1/24). This program allows donors to view your notebook and award local community scholarships. Detailed information is available on the MCHS Website→College Tab→Senior-To-Do Tab. Please sign-up on Naviance to attend one of the meetings and bring $7 to purchase notebooks. 

·      FEATURED SUMMER PROGRAM: Harvey Mudd College’s WISTEM encourages young women to pursue careers in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields and experience the Harvey Mudd community. The two-day (Feb. 23-25, 2017) residential program includes class visits, research lab tours, an HMC alumnae panel, a hands-on workshop and much more! The program is FREE for participants and includes overnight accommodations and meals.  Find more information about WISTEM at hmc.edu/wistem. Applications are due Friday, Jan. 20.

·      Career Speaker Series – Beginning this month! Professionals in various industries will visit the CCC to speak about their careers and the path they took to get there. This is a great opportunity to learn about different careers and the steps you need to take to land your dream job! Please sign-up on Naviance or in the CCC. All grade levels are welcome! Watch the bulletin for additional speakers.

·      SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the spring semester. Classes begin Monday, Feb. 6. Sign up in the CCC to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.
