STUDENT INFO
· Looking for someone to talk to about the recent election? Come to the Auditorium Tuesday, Jan. 17 to listen to a political talk from Dr. Christopher Nellum, a policy director at the health care organization Young Invincibles. Dr. Nellum will be sharing his thoughts about the election, his experience as an African-American in a professional field, and any bias on racism he has encountered along the way. He is coming all the way from D.C. to speak, so don’t miss out on this opportunity! The event is free and everyone is invited. There will be a brief reception before the talk at 4:30 pm in the guidance conference room, and food will be provided.
· Don’t miss Costa’s FIRST fully improvised show, Tonight’s Play! That’s right – an entire play created on the spot with audience suggestions! Tonight’s Play runs Fri. 1/27 at 7:30 pm and Sat. 1/28 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm in the small theatre. Tickets are $12 (adults) and $10 (students), and can be purchased online at miracostadramaboosters.org, next week in the Drama Room 1, or at the door. Space is limited, so don’t miss your chance to witness the magic!
· Hermosa Valley School is looking for HVS alumni to be Cabin Leaders for the 6th Grade Outdoor Science School in Malibu. Outdoor School will take place from Monday, Mar. 13 to Friday, Mar. 17. Cabin leaders can earn 100 community service hours. The applicant deadline is Friday, Jan. 27, so that we can have a crew and alternates in place. Please contact Mr. Hecker ASAP at [email protected].
· Mira Costa Hockey: If you are interested in playing hockey for MC, there will be an informational meeting TODAY in Room 242 at lunch. If you can’t make the meeting, please talk to Mr. Oystrick in Room 242.
· Calling all artists for the “Why I © MB” City Hall Art Exhibition! The MB Parks and Rec Department’s Cultural Arts Division is looking for artists of all ages to submit their entries for the 2017 “Why I © MB” art exhibition. Theme: Original artwork that depicts what people love about MB. Exhibition Dates: Feb. 21 through Mar. 16, 2017. Exhibition Location: Manhattan Beach City Hall, 1400 Highland Ave., MB, CA 90266. CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS
· Come to Mental Health Awareness Club Tuesdays in Mr. Wheeler’s Room 22 to bring awareness about these struggles.
· If you want to take a nap, eat or just meet new friends and old, come to Cookie and Nap Club in Room 20 TODAY at lunch.
· Winter Club Day is coming up on January 25! All club representatives need to pick up and fill out the 2nd semester report by Jan. 17. Club Day forms are due on Thursday, Jan. 19.
· Come to Lend a Hand Club on Fridays (TODAY) in Room 72 at lunch! On Sundays we make lunches and bring them to L.A.’s Skid Row.

SENIORS
· Seniors! If you have a freshman sibling, please come to Room 49 at lunch to be featured in the 2016-17 yearbook!
SPORTS
· Swim Team Tryouts will be held Jan. 26 at 2 pm. A parent meeting will be held 1/18 in the small auditorium from 6 – 8pm.
· If you missed the Badminton Team Tryouts this past Tuesday, we will be having a second tryout session on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club from 4 – 6 pm. If you have already tried out but want to try again in hopes of performing better, you are also welcome to attend. But please come with sports-appropriate shoes and a badminton racket.
· Final tryouts for Girls’ Lacrosse will be Tuesday, 1/17 and Wednesday, 1/18 from 6 to 8 pm at the stadium. Players must attend both days of tryouts. Please bring a mouth-guard (mandatory), lacrosse stick, goggles, cleats and running shoes.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
· PSAT SCORE PICK-UP If you took the October 19th PSAT, your score sheets are now available for pick-up in the CCC.
· Seniors – The MCHS Scholarship Notebook Program will begin this month. If you wish to participate, you will be required to attend ONE of the MANDATORY January lunchtime meetings (1/18 OR 1/24). This program allows donors to view your notebook and award local community scholarships. Detailed information is available on the MCHS Website→College Tab→Senior-To-Do Tab. Please sign-up on Naviance to attend one of the meetings and bring $7 to purchase notebooks.
· FEATURED PROGRAM: Soroptimist’s Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls Program. By participating in this program you will learn about career opportunities, setting and achieving goals, overcoming obstacles to success, and moving forward after setbacks. · Career Speaker Series – Beginning this month! Professionals in various industries will visit the CCC to speak about their careers and the path they took to get there.
