· Attention poetry lovers: Mira Costa will be holding its sixth annual Poetry Out Loud competition Thursday, Jan. 19! Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest in which contestants memorize and perform two famous poems from the Poetry Out Loud online anthology. Check it out at poetryoutloud.org. The winner of the competition will go on to represent Costa at the county-level competition in February. If you are interested in competing, see your English teacher or Ms. Sieker for more information and an application.
· Interested in going to London for Spring Break? See Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court, the bloody tower of London, Stonehenge, and Windsor Castle. Go to a Premiere League Football Match. Visit ancient Roman ruins See major shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, the London Philharmonic at the Royal Albert Hall and more! FACULTY
- Attention Faculty and Staff: This is a reminder that the Blood Drive is taking place during TODAY from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. If you would like to donate during your planning period, make sure to report to the Gym with photo ID and go to the front of the line.
CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS
· Come to Lend a Hand Club on Fridays in Room 72 at lunch. We make lunches on Sundays and bring them to Skid Row to feed the homeless.
· Are you a girl interested in pursuing a career in the STEM field? If so, come to GALS Club in Room 350 on Friday!
· Black Scholars Union meets every Thursday in Room 74 at lunch. We have several new initiatives for this year that we would love for you to be a part of. All new members are welcome!
· Mental Health Awareness Club: Come to Room 21 Tuesdays to learn about mental health and, more importantly, how to spread awareness about these struggles.
· Ballin’ for Kids: Come to Room 339 (Mr. Davidson’s room) on Thursday, 11/16 to help kids in underprivileged areas have equipment to play basketball.
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
· College Visits – Please sign up on Naviance If visit is during class, please ask your teacher for permission.
o TODAY 11/16 – International Universities Information Session at 9:27am (AM Office Hours). Come learn more about applying to international universities!
o Thursday 11/17 – Michigan State Admissions Representative visit for interested students and parents at 6:00pm.
· CCC Updates
The CCC will now be open from 8 am – 7 pm Monday-Thursday and 8 am – 5 pm on Fridays. We hope you can take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services. **The CCC will close at 3:30pm on 11/16 (TODAY) and 12/7; please plan accordingly.
o College Application Workshop Wednesdays from 2:00-7:00pm. Walk in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.
o Drop off your UC Personal Insight Questions to be reviewed by a College & Career Counselor. Be sure to include your name, email address and the prompts you are responding to. Deadline to turn in prompts to be reviewed is Monday, Nov. 21. Remember UC applications are due Nov. 30!
o College & Career Counselors will be meeting with all 10th grade students through their English classes over the next few weeks. We will be covering Career Exploration and will also provide an introduction to Naviance.

· Test Prep Resources:
o Revolution Prep is giving every Mira Costa student a $250 gift card to be used toward any Revolution Prep program, no purchase necessary. Gift card can be applied toward a fall or spring program, but must be redeemed by Dec. 31, 2016.

o PJ Test Prep is offering Free SAT/ACT Tests on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 4 starting at 10:00am.
