·        Attention Students: The Blood Drive is this Wednesday, 11/16/16. If you would still like to sign up, please see Mrs. Claypoole TODAY at Nutrition or lunch. No new people can sign up after lunch on Tuesday.

·        NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS? The next Lunches with Love delivery is Sunday, Nov. 20. We feed the homeless on Skid Row with your bagged lunches. ·        Attention poetry lovers: Mira Costa will be holding its sixth annual Poetry Out Loud competition Thursday, Jan. 19! Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest in which contestants memorize and perform two famous poems from the Poetry Out Loud online anthology. Check it out at poetryoutloud.org. The winner of the competition will go on to represent Costa at the county-level competition in February. If you are interested in competing, see your English teacher or Ms. Sieker for more information and an application.

·        Interested in going to London for Spring Break? See Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court, the bloody tower of London, Stonehenge, and Windsor Castle. Go to a Premiere League Football Match. Visit ancient Roman ruins See major shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, the London Philharmonic at the Royal Albert Hall and more! ·        If there are any athletes who have signed with a college for their sport and would like to be included in National Signing Day, please e-mail Mr. Shaw ([email protected]), who will provide additional information about the process. Signing Day will be on Wednesday, Nov. 16, (11:10 am) at lunch in the Mustang Mall.

FACULTY

  • Attention Faculty and Staff: This is a reminder that the Blood Drive is taking place during school this Wednesday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. If you would like to donate during your planning period, make sure to report to the Gym with photo ID and go to the front of the line.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·        Prescription for Happiness: Come to Room 144 at lunch! Be a part of kids helping kids!

·        Ballin’ for Kids: Come to Room 339 (Mr. Davidson’s room) on Thursday, 11/16 to help kids in underprivileged areas have equipment to play basketball.

·        We are on the road to Making America Great Again! Come to Room 207 on Tuesday (TODAY) at lunch for Young Republicans Club! New members are welcome!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         College Visits – Please sign up on Naviance If visit is during class, please ask your teacher for permission to attend.

o   Wednesday 11/16 International Universities Information Session at 9:27am (AM Office Hours). Come learn more about applying to international universities!

o   Thursday 11/17 Michigan State Admissions Representative visit for interested students and parents at 6:00pm.

·         CCC Updates

The CCC will now be open from 8 am – 7 pm Monday-Thursday and 8 am – 5 pm on Fridays. We hope you can take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services. **The CCC will close at 3:30pm on 11/16, and 12/7; please plan accordingly.

o   College Application Workshop Wednesdays from 2:00-7:00pm. Walk in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.

o   Drop off your UC Personal Insight Questions to be reviewed by a College & Career Counselor. Be sure to include your name, email address and the prompts you are responding to. Deadline to turn in prompts to be reviewed is Monday, Nov. 21. Remember UC applications are due Nov. 30!

o   College & Career Counselors will be meeting with all 10th grade students through their English classes over the next few weeks. We will be covering Career Exploration and will also provide an introduction to Naviance.

·            Test Prep Resources:

o  Revolution Prep is giving every Mira Costa student a $250 gift card to be used toward any Revolution Prep program, no purchase necessary. Gift card can be applied toward a fall or spring program, but must be redeemed by Dec. 31, 2016.

o  PJ Test Prep is offering Free SAT/ACT Tests on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 4 starting at 10:00am. ·         SCROC is now enrolling for its 9-week courses. Classes began this week. Sign up in the Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.
