·        It’s time for the Halloween Costume Contest! Sign up at the Mustang Mall at nutrition with your grade level table and get your picture taken! Prizes will be awarded at lunch. Remember to be school-appropriate, so no “clowning” around!

·        Need community service? Want to have FUN? Love animals? Great team bonding opportunity. Paint and be part of history by helping Portraits of Hope with their newest civic art project, ”Promoting Pet Adoption through Animal Shelter Revitalizations.” Sign up NOW for their Sat/Sun painting sessions at [email protected]. ·        Everybody should have received their Spirit Wear. If not, come to the Student Store to pick up your clothes. There is a new shipment of spirit wear ready to be distributed.

·        The Fall Production of Almost, Maine opens Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 pm in the small/new theatre. It runs Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 pm, Wednesday Nov. 9 at 4 pm, Thurs. Nov 10 at 6:30 pm, Friday Nov. 11 at 7:30 and Saturday Nov. 12 at 2 pm & 7:30 pm. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased in the Mall at lunch for $10 for students and seniors, $12 for adults. After Nov. 4, pre-sale price will increase to $12 and $15. The Wednesday, Nov. 9 show is $5 for MCHS students.

SENIORS

  • There will be an important meeting for seniors regarding Caps and Gowns and Graduation items with Jostens on Wednesday, Nov. 2 during AM Office Hours (9:27 am). Please report to the Auditorium as quickly as possible so the meeting can begin on time. Thank you.

SPORTS

  • Boys’ Basketball tryouts have been moved. The new tryout date is Nov. 8 from 7 – 9 pm at Manhattan Beach Middle School. Please email Coach Amaral directly if you are an upper-classman interested in trying out for Varsity at [email protected].

FACULTY

  • Faculty, don’t forget to participate in the Costume Contest! Go to the Mustang Mall at nutrition TODAY to have your picture taken!

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·        Come to Armenian Club in Room 112 TODAY. Learn Armenian and enjoy Armenian food! Every Monday in Mr. Lee’s Room 112.

·        Did you come from another school district? Bring your lunch and come to Ambassador Club TODAY at lunch in Room 21 to meet other students and become better acquainted with the school. Let’s have a great year!

·        Black Scholars Union meets every Thursday in Room 74 at lunch. We have several new initiatives for this year that we would love for you to be a part of. All new members are welcome!

·        Come to Pink Ribbon Club on Thursdays in Room 78 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

·        Need a safe and sane environment to hang out in? Come to Mira Costa’s Gender-Sexuality Alliance, Thursdays at lunch in Mr. Zeoli’s Room 23.

·        Mental Health Awareness Club: Come to Room 21 Tuesdays to learn about mental health and, more importantly, how to spread awareness about these struggles.

·        Want to become a published author? Come to Reflections on Mondays (TODAY) in Room 207.

·        Geeks Club: Come down to the Library this Friday to use the 3D printers and design 3D objects.

·         College Visits – Please sign up on Naviance If visit is during class, please ask your teacher for permission to attend.

o   Friday, 11/4 Bryant University at 8:00am, Bennington College at 1:00pm.

·         CCC Updates

The CCC will now be open from 8 am – 7 pm Monday-Thursday and 8 am – 5 pm on Fridays. We hope you can take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services.

*College Application Workshop Wednesdays from 2:00-7:00pm. Walk in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.

*Ninth Grade Planning Meetings in the CCC – on multiple dates to accommodate small groups: Evening meetings (6-7pm) on 11/1, 9, 15; 12/1, 5, 14. Daytime meetings: (9-10am) on 11/7, 17, 12/8, 9, 13.  Topics include: 9th grade planning, 4-year planning graduation requirements, A-G College entrance requirements, academic goals, extracurricular activities, and how to stay in touch. ·         SCROC is now enrolling for its 9-week courses. Classes begin Monday, Nov. 14. Sign up in the Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.

·            Test Prep Resources:

o  Attention Juniors, on Nov. 12 there will be a Free SAT/ACT Combo Practice Test held by Kaplan Test Prep to help students decide between the SAT or ACT. Participants will receive their scores instantly. The practice test will be held at Westwood Kaplan Center from 9:00am-12:30pm as well as Live Online. Sign up www.kaptest.com/practicetestweekend.

o  Revolution Prep is offering free online practice tests. Sign up using this link: https://www.revolutionprep.com/jk-practice-test. Download practice tests and take them in the comfort of your own home.

o  PJ Test Prep is offering Free SAT/ACT Tests on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 4 starting at 10:00am.
