STUDENT INFO           

·        BOO! Did I scare you? Probably not, so come get spooked for real at the Art 1 and Ceramics 1 Monster Art Show! The monsters will be haunting every day from Oct. 25 through Nov. 1 in Room 62.

·        The Fall Production of Almost, Maine opens Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 pm in the small/new theatre. It runs Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 pm, Wednesday Nov. 9 at 4 pm, Thurs. Nov 10 at 6:30 pm, Friday Nov. 11 at 7:30 and Saturday Nov. 12 at 2 pm & 7:30 pm. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased in the Mall at lunch for $10 for students and seniors, $12 for adults. After Nov. 4, pre-sale price will increase to $12 and $15. The Wednesday, Nov. 9 show is $5 for MCHS students.

·        It’s time for the Halloween Costume Contest! Sign up at the Mustang Mall at nutrition with your grade level table and get your picture taken! Prizes will be awarded at lunch. Remember to be school-appropriate, so no “clowning” around!

SPORTS

  • Boys’ Basketball tryouts will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1 and Thursday, Nov. 3 at Manhattan Beach Middle School from 7 – 9pm. If you are an upperclassman interested in trying out for Varsity, please contact Coach Amaral directly at [email protected].

FACULTY

  • Faculty, don’t forget to participate in the Costume Contest! Go to the Mustang Mall at nutrition Monday to have your picture taken!
  • Homeroom Teachers: Please turn in your orange UNICEF Trick-or-Treat fundraiser boxes by this Friday, 10/28, to the box in Ms. Gardner’s office in the Admin building.
  • Please release the following teams this week:
    • TODAY 10/28 – Boys’ Water Polo, Varsity at 1:20 pm.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·        Need a safe and sane environment to hang out in? Come to Mira Costa’s Gender-Sexuality Alliance, Thursdays at lunch in Mr. Zeoli’s Room 23.

·        Mental Health Awareness Club: Come to Room 21 Tuesdays to learn about mental health and, more importantly, how to spread awareness about these struggles.

·        Want to become a published author? Come to Reflections on Mondays in Room 207.

·        Geeks Club: Come down to the Library TODAY to use the 3D printers and design 3D objects.

·        Please come to Me to We Club Room 203. We help support education in Kenya and hope to build a classroom.

·        Are you a girl interested in pursuing a career in STEM? If so, come to GALS Club in Room 350 TODAY at lunch!

·        Come to Astronomy Club in Room 248 (Mr. Bartlett’s room) every Thursday at lunch for Astronomy Club, which happens every Thursday at lunch in Room 248.

·        Come to Lend a Hand Club on Fridays (TODAY) in Room 72 at lunch! On Sundays we make sandwiches and go to Skid Row to feed the homeless!

·         CCC Updates

The CCC will now be open from 8 am – 7 pm Monday-Thursday and 8 am – 5 pm on Fridays. We hope you can take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services.

*College Application Workshop Wednesdays from 2:00-7:00pm. Walk in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.

*Ninth Grade Planning Meetings in the CCC – on multiple dates to accommodate small groups: Evening meetings (6-7pm) on 10/27; 11/1, 9, 15; 12/1, 5, 14. Daytime meetings: (9-10am) on 11/7, 17, 12/8, 9, 13.  Topics include: 9th grade planning, 4-year planning graduation requirements, A-G College entrance requirements, academic goals, extracurricular activities, and how to stay in touch. ** The CCC will close at 3:30pm on 10/31, 11/4, 11/16, and 12/7, please plan accordingly.

·         SCROC is now enrolling for its 9-week courses. Classes begin Monday, Nov. 14. Sign up in the Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.

·            Test Prep Resources:

o  Attention Juniors, on Nov. 12 there will be a Free SAT/ACT Combo Practice Test held by Kaplan Test Prep to help students decide between the SAT or ACT. Participants will receive their scores instantly. The practice test will be held at Westwood Kaplan Center from 9:00am-12:30pm as well as Live Online. Sign up www.kaptest.com/practicetestweekend.

o  Revolution Prep is offering free online practice tests. Sign up using this link: https://www.revolutionprep.com/jk-practice-test. Download practice tests and take them in the comfort of your own home.

o  PJ Test Prep is offering Free SAT/ACT Tests on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 4 starting at 10:00am. Take the test and return after a short break to get the results, and learn free test strategy tips. Location for both dates is the Holiday Inn Express, Hermosa Beach. RSVP at www.pjtestprep.com/rsvp.
