STUDENT INFO           

·        Are you creative? How about courageous? Apply for the 2016 Clinton Family Social Inclusion Grant for up to $5,000. In order to qualify, your proposal must inspire productive and honest dialogues about race and other distinguishing characteristics that should be celebrated, not hated. The deadline has been extended to October 21, so don’t miss this excellent opportunity! Grant winners will be notified by mid-November. ·        It’s time for the annual PTSA Reflections Art Contest. Contest rules and forms are in the Admin Office or available from your Visual and Performing Arts teacher. Submit any art entry to Ms. Gardner in the Admin Office. Deadline is Thursday, Nov. 10. PTSA will pick up entries on Monday, Nov. 14.

·        Senior Shirts are back! Come by the Student Store at lunch or nutrition and pick one up! We have all sizes and they are only $10!

·        Shady People Have Returned! And taken over the Art Gallery! Come check out awesome portraits done by  Art 1 classes. They will be on display this whole week at lunch in Room 60.

·        NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE? The next Lunches with Love delivery is Sun, Oct 23. We feed the homeless on Skid Row with your bagged lunches. We are also collecting old backpacks. CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·        Dodgeball Tournament sign-ups will be held at lunch in the ASB Room 40 TODAY through Monday, 10/24. There will be teams of six with one alternate for $5 per team.

·        Creative Writing Club has been moved to Friday at lunch in Room 207! New members are always welcome!

·        Come to ASL Club (American Sign Language) this Friday in Room 232 in the math/science building.

·        Drama Club is every Wednesday (TODAY) at lunch! Come on down to Room 1 to learn all about what’s going on in the Drama/Tech Department.

·        Come to Pink Ribbon Club at lunch in Room 78 on Thursdays.

·        Come to Children’s Hospital L.A. Club on Mondays at lunch in Room 22. All are welcome.

·        Mental Health Awareness Club: Come to Room 21 Tuesdays to learn about mental health and, more importantly, how to spread awareness about these struggles.

·        Black Scholars Union meets every Thursday in Room 74 at lunch.  We have several new initiatives for this year that we would love for you to be a part of.  All new members are welcome!

·        The Ladies Aid Club focuses on the empowerment and health of women in need! We do community service, including bake sales and trips to health centers! Come join us on Thursdays in Room 20!

·        Want to gain a “Thoreau” understanding of ethics and morality? Come to Young Philosophers’ Society on Wednesdays (TODAY) in Room 45!

·        Young Democrats Club will be holding a voter registration drive TODAY. Please know your driver license number or the last four digits of your social security number. You can pre-register even if you’re 16!

·         CCC Updates

The CCC is now open from 8am until 7pm. We hope you’ll take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services!

*FAFSA Information Session – 5:30-6:30pm on Tuesday, 10/25.  Go to the CCC Calendar on the MCHS website to sign-up.

*College Application Workshop Wednesdays from 2:00-7:00pm. Walk in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.

*Ninth Grade Planning Meetings  – 6-7pm on multiple dates to accommodate small groups: 10/20, 27; 11/1, 9, 15; 12/1, 5, 14.  9th grade planning, 4-year planning graduation requirements, A-G College entrance requirements, academic goals, extracurricular activities, how to stay in touch. ·         SCROC is now enrolling for its 9-week courses. Classes begin Monday, Nov. 14. Sign up in the Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.

·            Test Prep Resources:

o  Revolution Prep is offering free online practice tests. Sign up using this link: https://www.revolutionprep.com/jk-practice-test. Download practice tests and take them in the comfort of your own home.

o  PJ Test Prep is offering Free SAT/ACT Tests on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 4 starting at 10:00am. Take the test and return after a short break to get the results, and learn free test strategy tips. Location for both dates is the Holiday Inn Express, Hermosa Beach. RSVP at www.pjtestprep.com/rsvp.
