STUDENT INFO           

·         We know you miss your middle school teachers, but the office staff at MBMS asks that you please do not drop by to visit unless you have emailed the teacher and received permission beforehand. Thank you!

·         Students who have excused periods (other than zero period): Off-grounds stickers are available this week in the main office at snack, lunch, or before or after school ONLY. You MUST have a current school ID to get a sticker.

·         Lost your ID already? On Monday, 9/26 bring $10 to Mrs. Cessor in the Student Store. Then take your receipt to the Auditorium for Make-up Picture Day to have your ID reissued. (Note: You do not need to retake your photo.)

·         Make-Up Picture Day Monday, 9/26 in the Auditorium. Photo IDs will be available for students who never received one.

·         What do Ms. Hutchinson, Mr. Kofahl, an evening cruise on the Danube River and authentic European cuisine have in common? They could all be a part of your Spring Break 2017! Come to Room 20 on Thursday during lunch for info on the Central Europe trip! Limited spots remaining.

·         Interested in Pokemon, sushi and ninjas? JAPAN 2018 meeting is TODAY at lunch in Room 72.

·         Interested in traveling to NEW YORK CITY for Spring Break? See Ms. Park in Room 48 or Ms. Dixon in Room 109 for information.

·         If you are interested in traveling to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands over Spring Break 2017, there will be a meeting in Mr. Smith’s Room 343 TODAY at lunch.

·         Need Community Service Hours? The next Lunches with Love delivery is Sunday, Sept. 25. We feed the homeless on Skid Row with your bagged lunches. We are also collecting old backpacks. ·         Are you creative? How about courageous? Apply for the 2016 Clinton Family Social Inclusion Grant for up to $5,000. In order to qualify, your proposal must inspire productive and honest dialogues about race and other distinguishing characteristics that should be celebrated, not hated. CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·         New Life Christian Club is starting up again TODAY in Mr. Brown’s Room 14. There will be cookies.

·         Latino Scholars Union is more than a club, it’s a community. Come to the first meeting TODAY at lunch in Room 73. Everyone is welcome.

·         Come to Baja Club Wednesdays (TODAY) in Room 77 to participate in Mexican exchange student program.

·         Nothing to do on Wednesdays during lunch? Come to Drama Club in Room 1 TODAY to learn about all the upcoming events in the Drama Department.

·         Mental Health Awareness Club: Come to Room 21 Tuesdays to learn about mental health and, more importantly, how to spread awareness about these struggles.

·         Do you like science and technology? Interested in working with a team and competing? Join Science Olympiad at our first meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at lunch!

·         All NHS members’ applications for Club Offices are available on the NHS page of the school website. See page for details if you are interested in running for Vice President, Historian, Secretary, or Treasurer.

·         Join Lend a Hand Club this year; new members are always welcome! Come to Room 72 on Friday at lunch to learn how you can get community service hours.

·         Need service hours? The Mira Costa Key Club meets every Thursday during lunch in Room 70.

·         Do you like the ocean? Do you like winning? Want something cool to put on your college apps? Come to National Ocean Sciences Bowl Club every Thursday at lunch in Room 343 in the Math and Science building.

·         Are you a girl at Costa who wants to meet other amazing women while getting community service? Come to S Club in Room 16 on Mondays!

·         If you want to help children in need and actually make a difference in the world, come join the UNICEF or United Nations Children’s Fund Club! We meet every Thursday in Room 19.

·         Attention gals: Come join the Girls Advancing Leadership in STEM, or GALS Club! We meet every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month in Room 350.

·         Please come to Interact Club TODAY, 9/14 at lunch to learn about fun ways to get community service hours!

·         Cyber Patriot Club meets TODAY, Wednesday, Sept. 14 in Room 111 at lunch. Bring your thumb drive for images. Interested in Cybersecurity? Like competition? Come see what Cyber Patriot is about!

 

SPORTS

·         If you are a team captain, make sure your team takes their team photo and submits a row-by-row list of full names to [email protected] by February 1. Coaches should also be getting a heads up. Just remind them.

·         Girls Lacrosse is having tryouts TODAY, Wednesday, 9/14 from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Meet at the bleachers. You must have a mouthguard to participate. Please bring lacrosse stick, goggles, running shoes and mouth guard. No experience needed.

·         Please release the following teams this week:

o   TODAY 9/14 – Girls Tennis, Varsity at 1 pm.

o   Thursday 9/15 – Football, JV at 1:15 pm.

FACULTY

·         Teachers/Staff!! Come join a “Fun” bowling league starting in October until early May, every Tuesday from 4 pm – 6 pm. You’ll be on a Costa team bowling in a Torrance Faculty League at Gable House. Email ddebevec@mbusd for more info.

 

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

PSAT REGISTRATION – Online registration is now open to MCHS Juniors and Sophomores for the October 19 PSAT. The test will begin at 7:00 am, and because this is a double late start date students taking the test will not have to miss class.  To register, please go the ASB webstore on the MCHS website (click on Store and choose ASB Webstore). Cost is $25.  Any questions, please contact the CCC.

The CCC will now be open from 8 am until 7 pm. We hope you can take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services!

*College Application Workshop Wednesdays – 9/14 & 9/21, from 2:00-7:00 pm. Walk in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.
