·        If you are interested in traveling to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands over Spring Break 2017, please contact Mr. Smith in Room 343 in the Math and Science building at snack any time this week.

·        Attention National Honor Society Members: There will be a mandatory meeting TODAY at lunch in the small auditorium. Please make sure to arrive promptly.

·        Belize 2016 still has a few spots available. Come to a meeting Tuesday 9/12/16 in Room 220 if you are interested in Mayan ruins, Cave tubing and visiting the second largest coral reef in the world.

·        Need Community Service Hours? The next Lunches with Love delivery is Sunday, Sept. 25. We feed the homeless on Skid Row with your bagged lunches. We are also collecting old backpacks. ·        Are you creative? How about courageous? Apply for the 2016 Clinton Family Social Inclusion Grant for up to $5,000. In order to qualify, your proposal must inspire productive and honest dialogues about race and other distinguishing characteristics that should be celebrated, not hated. ·        Students: Not sure if you bought an ASB Marker? Please check your Costa ID against the list posted on the school website to make sure that your ID card is correct. ASB Marker purchasers without the ASB marker on their ID will not receive free entry to upcoming games. If your ID is not correct please see Mrs. Cessor in the Finance Office at the Student Store.

·        Start the school year off with new socks! Costa’s own CIF-winning wrestling team has partnered with the famous “Legends” brand socks to bring you customized Mira Costa designs. These exclusive designs are only available here!  http://www.miracostawrestling.com/#!mcsocks/hpoj3 We are offering 5 different designs priced at $16 a pair or 2 pairs for $30.  Socks will be sold in front of the wrestling gym (at the entrance to the pool), Tuesday thru Friday, from 2 pm to 3:30 pm. Sales will begin September 6 and continue through the month. ·        Attention students interested in engineering, programming, computers, machining, business, or any STEM field: This Sunday, the Robotics team will have an open house at the team’s lab located at the Redondo Union High School campus. The open house will be from 2-4 PM on Sunday. Look for a sign on Diamond Street that says “Robotics Lab.” Drop by any time! Any questions? Please go to Mr. Braskin’s room #116.

·        Freshmen who are interested in ASB, come to one of the three information meetings in Room 41 at lunch on Friday Sept. 9, Monday Sept. 12 and Tuesday Sept. 13.

·        Attention Students! The first Club Council is next Tuesday, Sept. 13, and the following Tuesday, Sept. 20.

·        Attention Students: Join us for the fun at the after-football-game Stampede Dance on Friday night, immediately following the first home game 9/9. Free snacks and pizza!

·        Class of 2017! Senior shirts are now available in the Student Store! Come check them out!

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·         Please come to Interact Club to learn about fun ways to get community service hours!

·         Come to Children of War Club’s FIRST meeting of the year on Wednesday, Sept. 14 in Room 346! The club works to aid children in refugee camps and war-torn countries around the world.

·         Cyber Patriot Club meets Wednesday, Sept. 14 in Room 111 at lunch. Bring your thumb drive for images. Interested in Cybersecurity? Like competition? Come see what Cyber Patriot is about!

·         Mental Health Awareness Club: Come to Room 21 Tuesdays to learn about mental health and, more importantly, how to spread awareness about these struggles.

SPORTS

·         Please release the following team this week:

o   TODAY, 9/9 – Girls’ Tennis Varsity at 11:45 am.

·         Come try out for MAC Junior Rowing starting Sep. 12! Get on the water and join over 100 other LA area high school students on your way to fun, fitness and competitive success in this challenging and exciting sport! Go to www.macrowing.org for more info!

·         Girls Lacrosse is having tryouts on Tuesday, 9/13 and Wednesday, 9/14 from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Meet at the bleachers. You must have a mouthguard to participate. Please bring lacrosse stick, goggles, running shoes and mouth guard. No experience needed.

·        Class of 2017! Remember to buy your senior shirts in the student store! Wear them Fridays!

 

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

PSAT REGISTRATION – Online registration is now open to MCHS Juniors and Sophomores for the October 19 PSAT. The test will begin at 7:00 am, and because this is a double late start date students taking the test will not have to miss class.  To register, please go the ASB webstore on the MCHS website (click on Store and choose ASB Webstore). Cost is $25.  Any questions, please contact the CCC.

CCC Updates

The CCC will now be open from 8 am until 7 pm. We hope you can take advantage of the extra hours and our extended services!

*College Application Workshop Wednesdays – 9/14/ 9/21, from 2:00-7:00 pm. Walk-in and work on your college applications and personal statements with support from a CCC counselor. Bring a device or reserve one in the CCC.
