STUDENT INFO           

·         Don’t forget to buy a yearbook before they run out! They are $100 and you can purchase one at the student store. If you don’t know if you have purchased one you can check on Costa’s website.

·         Interested in visiting NYC next year? A visual arts tour is in the works! Please stop by Room 48 for more information. You must be enrolled in ANY arts course next year or have already taken AP Art History or AP Studio Art. We will be visiting major art museums, the Statue of Liberty, and seeing a Broadway show!

·         You have one more week to submit your entry for the 2016/2017 Student Planner Cover Contest! This is your chance to be published and win prizes! See website for details.

·         Just a few spots remain for the Central Europe trip during Spring Break 2017. Come by Room 20 (Hutchinson) or 24 (Caamano) for information! We’d love to have you join in this adventure!

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·         Mandatory NHS meeting TODAY. All NHS service logs are due the last Friday of May.

·         It’s not too late to get in on the food, friends, and fun at the Spike 4 Friends Charity Volleyball Tournament on June 12! See Ms. Cabrera in Room 45 for registration details.

 

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         VISITS SMC appointments on Wednesday, May 25 at 11:25 am 12:20 pm, please sign up for your time slot in the CCC.

·         COLLEGE APPLICATION SUMMER PREP SERIES– Get a jump on the process over the summer.

w  Choosing a Major on Tuesday, May 31 at 2:00 pm. One of the most common reasons students consider applying to a certain college is because it has a major that they are interested in. We’ll discuss important items to consider when selecting a major as well as what to look for in a school. In addition we talk about some common mistakes and misconceptions that students make when considering a major. Please sign up on Naviance.

w  Personal Statement Writing Workshop on Thursday, June 2 at 2:00 pm in the CCC.  Presented by Scott Simonsen from Blue Train. Please sign up on Naviance.

w  What are colleges looking for in applicants? Find out from two college admissions representatives on Tuesday, June 7 at 2:00 pm in the CCC. An overview on what colleges want to see from students and components of a strong application including a brief review of what to include on the essay. Parents are welcome to attend. ·         EL CAMINO START PROGRAM – El Camino College is offering a free STEM and robotics program this summer. In the STEM Training and Robotics Technology (START) program, students build a VEX robot and three electric projects, learn STEM career pathways, and go on three field trips. No prerequisite courses or prior technical experience required to apply. The program runs July 5 to July 28, Monday through Friday. Apply online: www.elcamino.edu/academics/indtech/start. ·         SCROC (SoCal Roc) has started enrollment for the fall semester. Sign up in the College and Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.

SENIORS  

w  Senior Clearance Deadline is May 20. Please bring copies of the following to the CCC: 1. Updated Naviance college admissions results. 2. Completed senior survey. 3. Acceptance letter from the school you will attend. This process will ensure your final transcript will be sent to the school you plan to attend in the fall.

w  El Camino bound students – After you take your assessment test, your next step towards priority registration is to meet with an ECC Counselor. There will be an ECC Counselor available in the CCC to meet with you through the month of May on Fridays from 12:20 – 2:40 pm. Sign up for your appointment in the CCC now.
