STUDENT INFO
· Cinema Club is holding its annual International Student Film Festival. Come and support our local student filmmakers on Friday 5/13 in the small theater. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
· Academic Waivers for 2016-17 are due by May 15. If you are submitting to waiver into a course, it must be submitted by May 15. You can access the form on the MCHS website under the “Academics” tab.
· Do you want to design next year’s Student Planner cover? Students and staff will vote on their favorite covers – submit yours soon! Deadline is May 27, and details can be found on MCHS homepage under News.
· Safaris, community service, cultural experiences, Shark Diving! This trip has it all. Discover South Africa during Spring Break 2017: Mandatory meeting TODAY during lunch in Room 410. New sign-ups welcome. Email [email protected] if you are unable to attend.
· Reminder: TODAY we will begin uploading the Office Hours attendance data from our QR system into PowerSchool. Students, be sure you scan in during AM and PM office hours, so your presence is reflected on PowerSchool and in School Messenger. Teachers, please help remind the students in your room to scan in.
· Ten days, four countries, endless memories…. Deadline to sign up for the Central Europe trip during Spring Break 2017 is quickly approaching! Come to Room 20 (Hutchinson) or 24 (Caamano) for details!
· Need to improve your reading and writing skills? Need help with summer reading? Sign up for the summer school class “Summer Reading: A Study of the Selected Literature.” It is only three weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 – 6:30 pm. The course is designed to guide you through the reading and hone your skills.
· Independent study athletics (ISA) applications are due Thursday, May 12!

SPORTS
· Five Costa Lacrosse Players Receive All Bay League Honors: The four Bay League coaches – PV, Peninsula, Redondo & Mira Costa – just released results of their votes on best all-Bay-League players for Team One and Team Two. Three seniors, Zane Crandall, Jack Gibbons & John VanSickle plus Casey Bonner, a junior, were selected for Team One and senior, Tyler Maruyama, was selected for Team Two.
· Mira Costa Boys Tennis Ranked #4 in Division One by CIF, as They Entered the Bay League Tournament – Mira Costa moved up to #4 ranking last week just as the exciting Bay League Tournament was gearing up. Mira Costa (#4), Peninsula (#3), PV (#10) & Redondo each sent their top singles and doubles players to compete. MCHS Varsity player Alex Gaal was a singles Bay League finalist, and Evan Fortier & Jeremy Cheung were doubles finalists. Both lost to Peninsula opponents in the finals, but now qualify for CIF Individuals, which begin May 26.

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS
· Latino Scholars Union is meeting on Friday 5/13 at lunch in Room 73. Everyone is welcome!
· National Honor Society: Blow off some steam after APs in NHS’s all inclusive six-man charity volleyball tournament. Sign up at lunch next week in the quad, $20 per team, or contact Darby Dayton at [email protected].
· Guardian Society – Please help give young kids the joy of toys by donating to the Toy Drive. Boxes for the Toy Drive can be found in the office, library and various classes.
· Come to Room 1 TODAY at lunch for Drama Club! We will be having board nominations.
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
· Visits – Santa Monica College individual appointments TODAY starting at 12 pm – sign up in the CCC; AFS (Study Abroad) on May 16 at 12:20 pm. Please sign up on Naviance.
· El Camino START Program – El Camino College is offering a free STEM and robotics program this summer. In the STEM Training and Robotics Technology (START) program, students build a VEX robot and three electric projects, learn STEM career pathways, and go on three field trips. No prerequisite courses or prior technical experience required to apply. The program runs July 5 to July 28, Monday through Friday. Apply online: www.elcamino.edu/academics/indtech/start. · ACT vs. SAT Presentation in the CCC: TODAY at 9:27 am (AM Office Hours). How do you choose which test your students should take? What kind of free and paid test prep resources are available? Discussion of suggested test-prep timelines for your student for the rest of 2016. Let's discuss all the options and make sure you are an SAT and ACT expert after this workshop. · College Essay Writing Workshop – Join admissions experts from Kenyon College, Sarah Lawrence College, and Reed College, three liberal arts and sciences colleges that deeply value writing, to explore what makes a successful college essay and how the essay fits into the entire college selection process. Because of space limitations, this is a student-only event. Interest in these colleges is not required for attendance. Please do not register for more than one session.

· SCROC (SoCal Roc) has started enrollment for the fall semester. Sign up in the College and Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.
SENIORS
· Senior Clearance Deadline is May 20. Please bring copies of the following to the CCC: 1. Updated Naviance college admissions results. 2. Completed senior survey. 3. Acceptance letter from the school you will attend. This process will ensure your final transcript will be sent to the school you plan to attend in the fall.
· El Camino bound students – After you take your assessment test, your next step towards priority registration is to meet with an ECC Counselor. There will be an ECC Counselor available in the CCC to meet with you through the month of May on Fridays from 12:20 – 2:40 pm. Sign up for your appointment in the CCC now.
