STUDENT INFO           

·         Ten days, four countries, endless memories…. Deadline to sign up for the Central Europe trip during Spring Break 2017 is quickly approaching! Come to Room 20 (Hutchinson) or 24 (Caamano) for details!

·         Need to improve your reading and writing skills? Need help with summer reading? Sign up for the summer school class “Summer Reading: A Study of the Selected Literature.” It is only three weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 – 6:30 pm. The course is designed to guide you through the summer reading and to hone your skills.

·         Independent study athletics (ISA) applications are due Thursday, May 12!!

·         LAX Fundraiser Spyder Surf and Spyder Boards in Hermosa are offering 20% off your purchase with 10% back to MCHS Lacrosse this weekend, Saturday 5/14 and Sunday 5/15. Look for flyers (must present at time of purchase) and more info to come.

SPORTS

·         Independent study athletics (ISA) applications are due Thursday, May 12!

·         Softball – Come support the softball team at their last home game TODAY against Morningside. Hope to see you there, Mustangs!

·         The MCHS Dance Team will be holding auditions for its 2016/2017 season! Come dance with the award winning National Champion team! We also perform at home football games, basketball games and more! Auditions will be held May 11, 12 and 13 from 3:30 – 6:30 pm in Room 81. Questions? Email [email protected].

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·         Guardian Society – Please help give young kids the joy of toys by donating to the Toy Drive. Boxes for the Toy Drive can be found in the office, library and various classes.

·         Wanna LOL? Well mosey on down to Room 1 at lunch every Tuesday for Improv Club.

·         Come to Room 1 Wednesday at lunch for Drama Club! We will be having board nominations.

 

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         Visits Santa Monica College individual appointments on May 11 starting at 12 pm – sign up in the CCC; AFS (Study Abroad) on May 16 at 12:20 pm. Please sign up on Naviance.

·         El Camino START Program – El Camino College is offering a free STEM and robotics program this summer. In the STEM Training and Robotics Technology (START) program, students build a VEX robot and three electric projects, learn STEM career pathways, and go on three field trips. No prerequisite courses or prior technical experience required to apply. The program runs July 5 to July 28, Monday through Friday. Apply online: www.elcamino.edu/academics/indtech/start. ·         ACT vs. SAT Presentation in the CCC: Wednesday, May 11 at 9:27 am (AM Office Hours). How do you choose which test your students should take? What kind of free and paid test prep resources are available? Discussion of suggested test-prep timelines for your student for the rest of 2016. Let's discuss all of the options and make sure you are an SAT and ACT expert when leaving this workshop. Parents are welcome to attend. Please RSVP on Naviance or in the CCC.

·         Out of State College Mini Fair May 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the MCHS Cafeteria. Come meet with admission representatives from 20 to 30 out-of-state colleges! Please RSVP on Naviance.

·         Boston College Information EventPresented by Steven Koo, Assistant Director of Admissions on Monday, May 16 at 7 pm. Event location: Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City – Ballroom D 555 Universal Hollywood Drive, Universal City, CA 91608. Parking – Boston College will pay for self-parking (but not valet parking). ·         SCROC (SoCal Roc) has started enrollment for the fall semester. Sign up in the College and Career Center to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application.

SENIORS  

·   Senior Clearance Deadline is May 20. Please bring copies of the following to the CCC: 1. Updated Naviance college admissions results. 2. Completed senior survey. 3. Acceptance letter from the school you will be attending. This process will ensure your final transcript will be sent to the school you plan to attend in the fall.

·   El Camino bound students – After you take your assessment test, your next step towards priority registration is to meet with an ECC Counselor. There will be an ECC Counselor available in the CCC to meet with you through the month of May on Fridays from 12:20 – 2:40 pm. Sign up for your appointment in the CCC now.
