STUDENT INFO           

·         AP Students: The final AP Exam pre-identification sessions are scheduled as follows:

    • Monday, April 18               7:00 pm                                              Library
    • Tuesday, April 19               7:00 pm                                              Library
    • Wednesday, April 20       AM & PM Office Hours               Small Theatre

Each meeting will last approximately 40 minutes. Students must attend one and need to be on time and bring a #2 pencil and something (a clipboard, book, etc.) on which to write.

 

·         All students wishing to be in ASB next year go to Room 40 and sign up for positions and interview dates.

·         Art Show Opening – This Friday 4/22 the 16th Annual All Media Art Show opens at the Manhattan Beach Art Center. The reception will be from 5-7 pm with an award ceremony at 6:15 pm. Bring friends and family and enjoy a free night of art, food and live music! The Art Center is located at 1560 Manhattan Beach Blvd., across the street from Polliwog Park.

·         You can now purchase your Hoofprints Yearbook ONLINE at the student store website using a credit/debit card! Currently $90 but will rise to $100 on May 1! Get your now before they sell out. For any faculty or staff who wish to purchase a book, please visit Donna Cessor in the Student Store.

·         Ready for a VISUAL ARTS TOUR to NYC? Spend five days exploring New York’s finest architecture and art museums including MOMA, The Met, the Cloisters, and participate in a workshop at the Guggenheim! We will also tour the 9/11 Memorial, SoHo, Greenwich Village, The Statue of Liberty, and attend a Broadway show! Depending on how many students participate, we will also have college visits to NYU and Pratt U. *You must be enrolled in any visual or performing arts course during the Spring 2017 semester or have already taken AP Studio Art or AP Art history. See Ms. Park in Room 48.

·         April is National Poetry Month AND National School Library Month. Come celebrate at your library! Come make poetry at our maker table. And, join the fun at our Poetry Open Mic during lunch on Friday, April 29. If you would like to perform, please let Ms. Lofton know. And, if you haven’t yet checked out our green screen, come by and pose for a photo! We’ll have it available during Office Hours Wednesday and any other time by request.

·         Please excuse the Boys Tennis Team TODAY at 1:00 pm for away matches at Peninsula. Sorry for any inconvenience.

·         There is still time to get your Spirit Wear order in. The deadline has been extended to 4/25/16. Order online or drop off your order form to the Student Store.

·         Mira Costa’s Musical The Addams Family presale tickets go on sale this whole week in the quad and the Drama Room! Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults.

·         JAPAN 2018 information meeting on Wednesday at lunch in Room 72. Domo arigato!

·         If you are interested in becoming an SAS peer mentor/tutor, please complete the application and submit it to Mrs. Santarosa or Ms. Fields in the Counseling Office!

·         Come see THE ADDAMS FAMILY – it’s to DIE for! Pre-sale tickets will be sold in the Mustang Mall at lunch throughout the week. Pre-sale prices are $10 for students/seniors and $15 for adults. After the show opens on Friday, April 22, tickets will increase to $12 & $18.

 

SPORTS

·         Mira Costa Hockey: The Mira Costa hockey team beat South Torrance 7-2 on Sunday. Wyatt Light scored three goals while Austin Bowkus and Nick Castro had two goals each. The next games are Thursday, April 21 at 6:20 pm against El Segundo and Tuesday, April 26 at 7:30 pm against PV. Come out and watch the action!

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS

·         The Library Club meets during lunch TODAY in the library lunch room. Everyone is welcome.

·         Bring your bodies on down to Drama Club every Wednesday at lunch in Room 1!

·         Wanna LOL? Come to Improv Club every Tuesday (TODAY) during lunch in Room 1.

·         Money may not buy happiness, but I would rather cry in a mansion. Come to Investor’s Club every Tuesday (TODAY) in Room 225. We will also be having a guest speaker.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         Visits U.S. Marines TODAY at 12:20 pm; Santa Monica College on April 20 at 12:30 pm; St. Mary’s College, Indiana on April 25 at 10:23 am; Kansas State University on Apr. 25 at 12:20 pm. Please sign up on Naviance.

·         Out of State College Mini Fair May 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 pom in the MCHS Cafeteria. Come meet with admission representatives from 20-30 out-of-state colleges! Please RSVP on Naviance.

SENIORS  

·   Senior Clearance Deadline is May 20. Please bring copies of the following to the CCC: 1. Updated Naviance college admissions results. 2. Completed senior survey. 3. Acceptance letter from the school you will be attending. This process will ensure that your final transcript will be sent to the school you plan to attend in the fall.

·   College Map Event – Friday, April 29 during lunch – Show us where you will be attending school in the fall. Wear your new school gear to the Mustang Mall stage and place your sticker on the map.

·   El Camino bound students – After you take your assessment test, your next step towards priority registration is to meet with an ECC Counselor. During the month of April there will be an ECC Counselor available in the CCC to meet with you on Thursdays (TODAY) from 12:20 – 2:40 pm. Sign up for your appointment in the CCC now.

·         UC Irvine 2016 Summer Surgery Program offers two, two-week intense sessions for mature high school students at least 16 years old who have excelled academically (minimum GPA of 3.5). This elite program allows students to gain hands-on experience in the fields of surgery and medicine. Given the intimacy of the program and nature of the instruction, tuition is $3,950 per student. Room and board are offered for students from out of the area for Session II only; tuition including room and board is $5,250 per student. *Program Scholarships are available; please see our website for additional details on how to apply!

The dates for each session:  Session I: July 11 – July 22   ;   Session II: July 25 – August 5, 2016 (room and board available for out-of-town/international students)

TESTING/WORKSHOPS

·   C2 Educate is offering 9 different mock AP Tests that students can take before May AP test days. Subjects include Chemistry, U.S. History, Language & Composition, Calculus AB, Biology, World History, U.S. Government & Politics, Physics 1, and Psychology. ·   Applerouth Tutoring is offering an SAT prep class at MCHS that will lead directly into the June 4 official SAT date.  You will receive a 12-hour, structured review of major SAT concepts and strategies. Test guides and session notes are provided to help simplify the studying process. Additionally, after each mock test, you will receive a detailed results analysis to help you chart your own unique course towards mastering the test.
