STUDENT INFO           

·         Find out how you can join the national award-winning Mustang Morning News staff. Come to an informational meeting TODAY during morning office hours in Room 108.

·         Incoming juniors and seniors finalizing classes with your counselor for next year: Honors Earth Science through UCLA is the class for you! Located right here at Mira Costa, Room 238, it is the only Dual Credit class (high school and college credit*) at Mira Costa. The transcript can earn you credit to another college, even if you do not go to UCLA. No AP exam. Four major fields of study are Astronomy, Oceanography, Meteorology and Geology. GPA boost! ·         Are you interested in making a video for a class project or a personal interest? Would you like to know how to superimpose video players on another background? Come by the library during Office Hours or lunch tomorrow to try out our new green screen and see how you can put it to use for your photography and image projects. And, have fun getting yourself photographed with a dinosaur, a llama, or an out of this world background! Our new green screen is also available by request for any student or teacher projects.

·         Spring Scenes Noon-Time Theatre will be held TODAY during PM office hours. Come out and enjoy the springtime scenes in Room 1.

·         If you would like to partake in La Vista’s annual photo contest, submit your work to [email protected] with your name, grade and photo titles. Please submit by April 13.

·         Interested in joining the Hoofprints Yearbook Staff next year as a writer, designer or photographer? Come to Room 49 at the beginning of AM office hours TODAY for a short informational meeting! Hope to see you there!

·         Attention all current freshmen, sophomores and juniors interested in joining the Surf Team for next year! The Surf Team will be holding an open tryout Thursday, March 31 at 6:30 a.m. at the 26th St. Lifeguard tower.

·         The Mira Costa UNICEF Club presents the UNICEF Tap Project: an initiative in which for every five minutes you spend not using your mobile device, UNICEF provides one day of clean water for a child in need. Whether you are sitting in class, taking a test, or just sleeping, you can put your phone down for a good cause. Go to uniceftapproject.org and take the challenge today!

·         Attention all students who are interested in being in Student Government next year: You MUST come to one of the lunchtime information meetings TODAY 3/30, 4/11 or 4/13 in Room 41.

  • STEM Internship Workshop: TODAY, Wednesday, March 30 during morning office hours (9:49 – 10:41 am). If you aspire to a job in a STEM field, you don’t want to miss this highly interactive workshop. Every participant will leave with a draft resume and cover letter content that will grab a hiring manager’s attention, a checklist of next steps for pursuing and securing a STEM internship, and a better understanding of fields that best align with their unique skills, talents and interests!   • Which College Is Your Best Investment Seminar: Wednesday, April 13 during morning office hours (9:27 – 10:24 am). With rising college costs and student debt, it is important for you to get started off on the right financial path when making your college choice. This seminar will help give you guidance on weighing the costs and benefits of your college options to help you make an informed decision. Both students and parents are welcome.

TESTING/WORKSHOPS

·   Blue Train is offering free proctored ACT tests on April 2 from 1:30 pm – 5:30 pm at the Clark Building 861 Valley Dr., HB. Your test and essay will be scored and returned before you leave. ·   Applerouth Tutoring is offering an SAT prep class at MCHS that will lead directly into the June 4 official SAT date.  You will receive a 12-hour, structured review of major SAT concepts and strategies. Test guides & session notes are provided to help simplify the studying process. Additionally, after each mock test, you will receive a detailed results analysis to help you chart your own unique course towards mastering the test.

·   PJ Test Prep is offering a free SAT or ACT practice test on April 2 from 10:00 am – 2:05 pm. Location is the Holiday Inn Express Hermosa Beach; please RSVP at www.pjtestprep.com/rsvp. ·   El Camino bound students – After you take your assessment test, your next step towards priority registration is to meet with an ECC Counselor. During the month of March there will be an ECC Counselor available in the CCC to meet with you on Thursdays from 12:20 – 2:40 pm.
