STUDENT INFO           

·         Attention all students who are interested in being in Student Government next year: You MUST come to one of the lunchtime information meetings on 3/28, 3/30, 4/11 or 4/13 in Room 41.

·         The ASB Finance Office and Student Store will be closed TODAY due to our annual audit. If you have financial business to discuss regarding your club or organization, please see Mrs. Claypoole in Room 41.

·         The first round of Scholar Quiz begins TODAY during lunch from 11:10 – 11:40 am. The rest of the competition, except the finals, will all be held during lunch from 12:21 – 12:51 pm. On Thursday, Mar. 24, the competition will continue. Sweet 16 will compete on Friday, Mar. 25. Elite 8 will compete on Monday, Mar. 28. The Final 4 will face off on Tuesday, Mar. 29. The Finals showdown will take place on Wednesday, Mar. 30 during 2nd period from 8:43 – 9:43 am. All rooms and winners will be posted outside the ASB Room and on the website. Come cheer on your classmates. Good luck to the teams!

·         MCHS alumnus, Golden Globe winner and star of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” Rachel Bloom will be speaking in the auditorium TODAY during both office hours to share her journey and answer your submitted questions. Come out to see her.

·         Mira Costa has a screening of Salam Neighbor, a documentary about the Syrian refugee crisis, on Mar. 28 at 6:30 pm in the auditorium. Many teachers are offering extra credit; buy tickets on Facebook at Salam Neighbor Mira Costa HS.

·         Interested in going to Belize? Thursday, Mar. 24, there will be an informational meeting in Room 220 at lunch for students interested in going to Belize to tour natural and historical wonders.

·         Come join in the fun at the Library Maker Fair on Thursday from 3 pm – 5 pm. Enjoy activities including designing and printing earrings or pendants on our 3D printers, programming our BB-8, a robotics competition, composing black out poetry, making pinwheels for community service, building electronics, Google Cardboard, and more – plus, of course, good company and some refreshments. Everyone is invited!

·         Australia, New Zealand, Fiji 2018 meeting on Thursday at lunch in Room 72. Only three spaces left!

·         There will be a Sophomore Block (World History & Literature) meeting during BOTH office hours TODAY in Room 207.

·         One week left! Enter your artwork into the 16th Annual All Media Art Show. All students and all types of art are welcome. The show will be held at the Manhattan Beach Art Center and prizes will be awarded in six categories. See your art teacher or go to Room 62 for more information and entry form. Artwork must be submitted by March 28.

·         Student Print Job Requests: You may pick up your printed job in Room 42 before school, at snack or lunch only and NOT during class times or passing periods.

·         Summer School Sign-ups are right around the corner. If you want to hone your skills and get help with the summer selections, sign up for Summer Reading: A study of the selected literature. The class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 – 10:30 am, and an additional class is being offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 – 6:30 pm.

·         There will be a quick meeting discussing next year’s Astrophysics class during PM office hours TODAY in Room 248. Any junior or senior interested should attend to hear Mr. Bartlett talk the talk.

SENIORS

·         If you are interested in speaking or performing at graduation or senior recognition, pick up an application in the main office or Room 15. Apps are due 3/31 to Ms. Owen.

CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS

·         Come support Action Against Hunger Club and come to CPK in the Manhattan Beach Mall TODAY. 20% of all proceeds go towards the foundation. Be sure to mention Action Against Hunger Club to your server.

·         K-Pop Club will meet this Thursday, 3/24. Everyone is welcome!

·         Come to Drama Club every Wednesday (TODAY) during lunch in Room 1.

  • STEM Internship Workshop: Wednesday, March 30 during morning office hours (9:49 – 10:41 am). If you aspire to a job in a STEM field, you don’t want to miss this highly interactive workshop. Every participant will leave with

a draft resume and cover letter content that will grab a hiring manager’s attention, a checklist of next steps for pursuing and securing a STEM internship, and a better understanding of fields that best align with their unique skills, talents and interests!   • Which College Is Your Best Investment Seminar: Wednesday, April 13 during morning office hours (9:27 – 10:24 am).   With rising college costs and student debt, it is important for you to get started off on the right financial path when making your college choice. This seminar will help give you guidance on weighing the costs and benefits of your college options to help you make an informed decision. Both students and parents are welcome.

TESTING/WORKSHOPS

·         C2 Educate is offering 9 different mock AP Tests that students can take before May AP test days.  Subjects include:  Chemistry, U.S. History, Language & Composition, Calculus AB, Biology, World History, U.S. Government & Politics, Physics 1, and Psychology.  Sign-up at:  https://www.c2educate.com/lasrm

·         Applerouth is offering an SAT prep class at MCHS that will lead directly into the June 4 official SAT date.  You will receive a 12-hour, structured review of major SAT concepts and strategies. Test guides & session notes are provided to help simplify the studying process. Additionally, after each mock test, you will receive a detailed results analysis to help you chart your own unique course towards mastering the test.

·         PJ Test Prep is offering a free SAT or ACT practice test on April 2 from 10:00 am – 2:05 pm. Location is the Holiday Inn Express Hermosa Beach; please RSVP at www.pjtestprep.com/rsvp. SENIORS  

·         El Camino bound students – After you take your assessment test, your next step towards priority registration is to meet with an ECC Counselor. During the month of March there will be an ECC Counselor available in the CCC to meet with you on Thursdays from 12:20 – 2:40 pm.
