STUDENT INFO
· Sadie Hawkins tickets are now on sale. Go to the ASB room to grab forms and the Student Store to purchase tickets. Buy yours soon; prices go up after Monday 3/7!
· Girls’ Basketball is in the CIF Championship game Saturday, Mar. 5 at Azusa Pacific University. There is a bus taking any students that want to come. It is leaving from Costa at 1:30 pm. Sign up to ride the bus with Mrs. Cessor in the Student Store.
· Congratulations to Miriam Sachs, the first Mustang to both compete at and place in the state-level competition of Poetry Out Loud! As the Los Angeles County winner, Miriam went on to compete at the state capitol against 38 other contestants from counties all over California, and she was awarded 3rd place!
· Come see the Art Show in Room 60 (the gallery)! React to it & see your own thoughts on the wall, too.
· Volunteer Opportunity: Grand View Elementary in Manhattan Beach is having a Science Expo on Wednesday, March 16, between the hours of 3 pm – 7 pm. This is a great opportunity to receive volunteer hours/credit by helping out with fun experiments and other exciting duties. · Come hear the 2016 Talent Show winners, Musicians with an Attitude, at the Evening of Eclectic Ensembles on Friday, Mar. 11 from 6 – 9 pm. They will be joined by many more acts for a truly memorable and fun evening in the school cafeteria. CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS
· Come one, come all! Latino Scholars Union is more than just a club, it’s a community. We meet every Tuesday at lunch in Room 73. LSU is welcoming to all Mira Costa high school students; you do not have to be Hispanic or Latino to join!
· The Geeks Club meets in the library lunchroom during lunch TODAY. Everyone is welcome.
· Do you like anime? Or do you want to learn more/get involved in the anime community? If so, go to Anime Club in Room 205 on Mondays.
· Wanna LOL? Come to Room 1 every Tuesday at lunch for Improv Club, put on by Costa’s Comedysportz Team. Everyone is welcome to watch or participate.
· Do you want to help children in Kenya!?! Prove you’re not a bad person; come to Room 76 on Tuesdays for Me to We Club.
· Attention Costa Clubs: Help us make the next library maker fair on Thursday, March 24, 3 – 5 pm, a success. Plan an activity for the participants. You’ll have fun and make the fair more fun for everyone else. Contact Ms. Lofton for information.
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
- Visits: University of Missouri Business College on Monday, March 7 at 12:20 pm; St. John’s University NY on March 11 at 1:00 pm. Please sign up on Naviance.
- Boeing Internship – Juniors interested in the summer internship program at Boeing must attend a mandatory informational meeting on Wednesday, Mar. 16 from 3:00 – 4:00 pm in the CCC. Parents are encouraged to attend. Please sign up on Naviance.
- LABioMed 2016 Summer Fellowship Program – An opportunity for Juniors and Seniors to work in an exciting biomedical research environment. This is an eight-week program allowing students to assist their assigned mentors who are accomplished medical scientists involved in cutting-edge biomedical research. The Fellowships begin on Monday, June 20* and continue through Friday, Aug. 5. Students will work full-time and receive a total stipend of $2,160. This year’s 2016 application is now available on line at http://labiomed.org/summer-fellowship-application. Completed applications must be received or postmarked by Mar. 15, 2016. - SoCalRoc is now enrolling for its nine-week courses. Classes begin April 11. Sign up now to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application in the CCC.
TESTING/WORKSHOPS
· Revolution Prep is offering a free ACT or SAT full-length mock exam on March 19 at MCHS from 9 am – 1 pm. To register, email Jean Stroud at j[email protected]. Revolution Prep is also offering a student/parent presentation, “An Insider’s Guide to College Prep,” on March 23 in the CCC from 9:30 – 10:20 am. Please sign up on Naviance for the presentation.
· PJ TEST PREP is offering free practice SAT, New SAT, and ACT tests on March 5 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Hermosa Beach Holiday Inn Express. Results, free test strategy tips and information about the new SAT will be available following the test at 2:30 pm for students and/or parents. Please RSVP at www.pjtestprep.com/rsvp. Questions? · Applerouth ACT Prep at MCHS – Applerouth is offering an ACT test prep course at Mira Costa beginning Saturday, Mar. 12. The course will include 7 test prep sessions and 3 mock ACT exams for $499. SENIORS
· El Camino bound students – After you take your assessment test, your next step towards priority registration is to meet with an ECC Counselor. There will be an ECC Counselor available in the CCC to meet with you on Thursdays from 12:20 – 2:40 pm. Sign up for your appointment in the CCC now.
