STUDENT INFO           

·         If you are interested in speaking or performing at graduation or senior recognition, pick up an application in the main office or Room 15. Apps are due 3/31 to Ms. Owen.

·         Hermosa Valley School needs more BOY Cabin Leaders for the 6th Grade Outdoor Science School in Malibu. Outdoor School will take place from Monday, Mar. 14 to Friday, Mar. 18. Cabin Leaders can earn 100 community Service hours. Please contact Mr. Hecker immediately at [email protected].

·         All students are invited to experience our GRAMMY Signature School Gold Award-winning Costa band and orchestra students like you’ve never heard them before ... in small ensembles playing a variety of music genres! $10 gets you a taco dinner, dessert, live music and a rockin’ raffle. CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS

·         Attention Costa Clubs: Help us make the next library maker fair on Thursday, March 24, 3 – 5 pm, a success. Plan an activity for the participants. You’ll have fun and make the fair more fun for everyone else. Contact Ms. Lofton for information.

·         If you have any used or old shoes that you would like to donate for the Philanthropic Runners Club Shoe Drive, please bring them to Mr. Calderon’s Room 346. Meetings every other Tuesday if you’re interested in joining!

·         Fashion Club is looking for girls interested in modeling for the Macy’s Fashion Show. Auditions will be held in Room 131 TODAY at lunch.

·         The Library Club meets in the library workroom during lunch TODAY. On Wednesday at 3 pm, the library club meets with the “Somewhat Virtual Book Club” network of school library clubs from around the country on Google hangouts to discuss Scott Westerfeld’s Afterlives. Everyone is welcome.

·         Attention all clubs!! If you want your club photo to be featured in the yearbook, please email [email protected] to sign up! You must email by Thursday 3/4.

·         Stop talking and start helping! Come to Shut Up and Help Club every Wednesday in Room 22 to help the homeless.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

  • VisitsSanta Monica College on Wednesday, March 2 at 9:27 am (am office hours); University of Missouri Business College on Monday, March 7 at 12:20 pm.
  • Boeing Internship Juniors interested in the summer internship program at Boeing must attend a mandatory informational meeting on Wednesday, Mar. 16 from 3:00 – 4:00 pm in the CCC. Parents are encouraged to attend. Please sign up on Naviance.
  • LABioMed 2016 Summer Fellowship Program – An opportunity for Juniors and Seniors to work in an exciting biomedical research environment. This is an eight-week program allowing students to assist their assigned mentors who are accomplished medical scientists involved in cutting-edge biomedical research.  The Fellowships begin on Monday, June 20* and continue through Friday, Aug. 5. Students will work full-time and receive a total stipend of $2,160.   • SoCalRoc is now enrolling for its nine-week courses. Classes begin April 11. Sign up now to speak with a SCROC advisor and pick up an application in the CCC.

TESTING/WORKSHOPS

·         ESSAY WORKSHOP   Susan Levenson with Kaplan Testing, will be conducting an essay writing workshop for the ACT/SAT during the afternoon office hours on March 2nd. During this workshop, students will learn the essay format, how to analyze an author’s perspective or argument, and the key steps they can take to craft a well-written essay in the time provided. ·         PJ TEST PREP is offering free practice SAT, New SAT, and ACT tests on March 5th from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Hermosa Beach Holiday Inn Express. SENIORS  

·         El Camino bound students – After you take your assessment test, your next step towards priority registration is to meet with an ECC Counselor. Beginning Feb. 25 there will be an ECC Counselor available in the CCC to meet with you on Thursdays from 12:20 – 2:40 pm. Sign up for your appointment in the CCC now.
