STUDENT INFO
· Scholar Quiz 2016 is coming! Sign-ups will be on ONE DAY ONLY this year – Wednesday, Feb. 24 starting at 6:30 am. Team entry sheets are posted on the website homepage, or pick up a copy in the front office.
· CSF – California Scholarship Federation Spring Membership Drive has begun. If you are a stellar student with at least three A’s and only one B on your semester report card, you may be eligible. Come to Room 243 at snack or lunch for more information and to pick up an application. We invite freshmen to become “Associate Members.”
· Contest for grades K-5 (art) and 6-12 (art and photography). Entry forms are available in the front office. Deadline for submission to the school office is Feb. 22, 2016 before 3 pm. An awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, Mar. 6, 2016 at 1 pm in the Neptunian clubhouse.
· AP Students: Did you miss registering for the AP exams? There will be late registration TODAY at lunch only at the student store. An additional fee of $15 for each exam will be charged.
SENIORS
· Please check the MCHS website for the Senior Spring Calendar for important dates of upcoming events.
FACULTY
· Early Releases – Please release the following teams’ students TODAY:
o Girls’ Water Polo All Levels at 1:10 pm
o Wrestling 1 Girl at 8:00 am
CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS
· The Library Club meets in the library lunch room during lunch TODAY.
· Do you like anime? Or do you want to learn more/get involved in the anime community? If so, go to Anime Club in Room 205 on Mondays.
· ASL Club is back in Room 232 TODAY.
· Math Club will be hosting the AMC test next Wednesday, 2/17, (during Ski Week) at 1 pm in Room 116 (Mr. Braskin’s). Come if you would like to participate (limited tests – first come, first served).
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
· LABioMed 2016 Summer Fellowship Program – An opportunity for Juniors and Seniors to work in an exciting biomedical research environment. This is an eight-week program allowing students to assist their assigned mentors who are accomplished medical scientists involved in cutting-edge biomedical research. The Fellowships begin on Monday, June 13 and continue through Friday, August 5. Students will work full-time and receive a total stipend of $2,160. This year’s 2016 application is now available online at http://labiomed.org/summer-fellowship-application. Completed applications must be received or postmarked by March 15, 2016. · PSAT Score Sheets are available for pick-up in the CCC.
· College Fair – Torrance – North High School is hosting a College Fair on Saturday, Feb. 20, 10 am – 2 pm. The fair is free featuring representatives from many colleges, universities, trade schools and the military. Financial information will be available. North High School, 3620 W. 182nd St., Torrance.
· SoCal Roc – A SoCal Roc counselor is available in the CCC on Mondays during 2nd period and snack.
FREE TESTING
· C2 Education centers will be offering free practice tests on Feb. 13, 15 and 20. Choose from the New SAT or the ACT. Register online at https://www.c2educate.com/presidents-day.
· Kaplan is offering Free practice tests all year long – View times and enroll at wwwk.kaptest.com/hsevents
· PJ TEST PREP is offering free practice SAT, New SAT and ACT tests on March 5, 10:00 am – 2:oo pm at the Hermosa Beach Holiday Inn Express. SENIORS
- El Camino-bound Students – After you take your assessment test, your next step towards priority registration is to meet with an ECC Counselor. Beginning Feb. 25 there will be an ECC Counselor available in the CCC to meet with you on Thursdays from 12:20 – 2:40 pm. Sign up for your appointment in the CCC now.
