STUDENT INFO
· Scholar Quiz 2016 is coming! Sign-ups will be on ONE DAY ONLY this year – Wednesday, Feb. 24 starting at 6:30 am. Team entry sheets are posted on the website homepage, or pick up a copy in the front office.
· If you want to show love or embarrass your friends on Wednesday, buy an orchestra Valgram in the student quad at snack and lunch on Tuesday (TODAY). They are $3 each.
· From the Library: What are you doing during office hours Wednesday? Treat yourself to an inspiring talk by Author Marisa Reichardt in the small theater. She will be sharing about what inspired her to write Underwater, published just last month, about a teenager suffering from the aftershock of a violent incident at her school. You can also purchase copies of her book and get them signed at the end of both sessions. Books will also be for sale during lunch outside the library. Marisa Reichardt is Mr. Reichardt’s wife, Costa Ceramics teacher and water polo coach. Don’t miss this great session. You can come during either morning or afternoon office hours.
· Please note the library will be closed during lunch on Wednesday.
· Students who have an “Excused 1st, Excused 5th, or 6th period” or Surf Team on their schedules need to come to the Guidance Office to get the 2nd semester GREEN Off-Grounds sticker placed on their student ID cards. Off-Grounds stickers will be issued before school, at snack, at lunch, or after school only. Please do not come during class time. If you are off campus and stopped by the police without the Off-Grounds sticker on your ID card, you may be subject to a truancy citation.
· Attention students and staff: A Waterline construction project on Redondo Avenue between 2nd and Artesia may affect your commute to and from school. You may want to plan an alternate route for the next 2 to 3 weeks!
· Student Print Job Requests: If you are requesting a print job, please email document in PDF format and send file as an attachment to [email protected]. Please put your name in the subject line. You may pick up your printed job in Room 42 before school, at snack, or lunch only and not during class times. Printing is .10₵ per side.
· Congratulations to Miriam Sachs – the first student in Costa history to win first place in the Los Angeles Poetry Out Loud competition. Miriam will be representing Mira Costa and all of L.A. County at the state-level competition in Sacramento at the end of the month. Go, Miriam!!!
· The Neptunian Woman's Club of Manhattan Beach is sponsoring its 38th Student Art and Photography Contest for grades K-5 (art) and 6-12 (art and photography). Entry forms are available in the front office. Deadline for submission to the school office is February 22, 2016 before 3 pm. An awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 1 pm in the Neptunian clubhouse.
· Attention students interested in buying a flower or lollipop for someone special for Valentine’s Day: Visit the table outside the ASB room at lunch TODAY.
· AP Students: Did you miss registering for the AP exams? There will be late registration TODAY at lunch only at the student store. An additional fee of $15 for each exam will be charged.
SENIORS
· Please check the MCHS website for the Senior Spring Calendar for important dates of upcoming events.
· The senior photo for ALL seniors for yearbook will be taken on Wednesday, 2/10 at the beginning of AM office hours. All seniors please meet on the football field at the beginning of AM office hours.
FACULTY

· Cyber Patriot will be having a mandatory meeting in Room 111 this Wednesday during lunch.
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
- Visits: Academy of Art University-San Francisco on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 12:20 pm; Vancouver Film School on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 9:27 am.
- PSAT Score Sheets are available for pick-up in the CCC.
- College Fair – Torrance – North High School is hosting a College Fair on Saturday, Feb. 20, 10 am – 2 pm. The fair is free featuring representatives from many colleges, universities, trade schools and the military. Financial information will be available. North High School, 3620 W. 182nd St., Torrance.
- SoCal Roc – SCROC has extended its enrollment until Wednesday, Feb. 10. Come into the CCC and sign up to speak with a SCROC counselor.
TESTING
· C2 Education centers will be offering free practice tests on Feb. 13, 15 and 20. Choose from the New SAT or the ACT. Register online at https://www.c2educate.com/presidents-day.
· Kaplan is offering Free practice tests all year long – View times and enroll at wwwk.kaptest.com/hsevents
· PJ TEST PREP is offering free practice SAT, New SAT and ACT tests on March 5, 10:00 am – 2:oo pm at the Hermosa Beach Holiday Inn Express. SENIORS
· El Camino Assessment Testing at MCHS – If you have applied to El Camino College, you have an opportunity to complete your assessment testing at MCHS. Testing will take place on Thursday, February 11 at 10:00 am – 12:30 pm in Room 241. Reserve your spot on Naviance; seating is limited. Please bring your El Camino Student ID.
