STUDENT INFO           

·         Students who have an “Excused 1st, Excused 5th, or 6th period” or Surf Team on their schedules need to come to the Guidance Office to get the 2nd semester GREEN Off-Grounds sticker placed on their student ID cards. Off-Grounds stickers will be issued before school, at snack, at lunch, or after school only. Please do not come during class time. If you are off campus and stopped by the police without the Off-Grounds sticker on your ID card, you may be subject to a truancy citation.

·         Discover South Africa during Spring Break 2017: If you’re interested in this life-changing adventure, see Mr. Cox during PM office hours on Wed. 2/10 or email [email protected] for details.

·         Attention students and staff: A Waterline construction project on Redondo Avenue between 2nd and Artesia may affect your commute to and from school. You may want to plan an alternate route for the next 2 to 3 weeks!

·         Student Print Job Requests: If you are requesting a print job, please email document in PDF format and send file as an attachment to [email protected]. Please put your name in the subject line. You may pick up your printed job in Room 42 before school, at snack, or lunch only and not during class times. Printing is .10₵ per side.

·         Congratulations to Miriam Sachs – the first student in Costa history to win first place in the Los Angeles Poetry Out Loud competition. Miriam will be representing Mira Costa at the state-level competition in Sacramento at the end of the month. Go, Miriam!!!

·         The Neptunian Woman's Club of Manhattan Beach is sponsoring its 38th Student Art and Photography Contest for grades K-5 (art) and 6-12 (art and photography). Entry forms are available in the front office. Deadline for submission to the school office is February 22, 2016 before 3 pm. An awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 1 pm in the Neptunian clubhouse.

·         Attention students interested in buying a flower or lollipop for someone special for Valentine’s Day: Visit the table outside the ASB room at lunch TODAY or Tuesday.

·         Embarrass your friends or loved ones with a singing Valgram from Coterie, the girls a cappella group! Only $3 to send “Talk Dirty,” “Latch,” and/or “L-O-V-E” to anyone in periods 1, 2, 4 and 5. Valgrams will be sold in the student quad at nutrition and lunch TODAY and Tuesday!

·         The Blood Drive is coming up! It’s Wednesday, Feb. 10, and the last days to sign up are TODAY (Friday) and Monday 2/8. Please come to Mrs. Claypoole’s Room 40 to sign up!

·         AP Students: Did you miss registering for the AP exams? There will be late registration TODAY at lunch only at the student store. An additional fee of $15 for each exam will be charged.

SENIORS

·         The senior photo for ALL seniors for yearbook will be taken on Wednesday, 2/10 at the beginning of AM office hours. All seniors please meet on the football field at the beginning of AM office hours.

SPORTS

·         Mira Costa Hockey: There will be a mandatory meeting for both players and parents TONIGHT, Monday, Feb. 8 at 7 pm in Room 242. If you can’t make it, please see Mr. Oystrick in Room 242.

FACULTY

CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS

·         Girls Who Code meets TODAY in Room 116 from 3 to 4 pm!

·         Come to Cultures Unite every Monday (TODAY) in Room 52 to learn about some amazing cultures at Costa.

·         Do you like anime? Or do you want to learn more/get involved in the anime community? If so, go to Anime Club in Room 205 on Mondays (TODAY).

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

  • PSAT Score Sheets are available for pick-up in the CCC.
  • College Fair – Torrance – North High School is hosting a College Fair on Saturday, Feb. 20, 10 am – 2 pm.  The fair is free featuring representatives from many colleges, universities, trade schools and the military.  Financial information will be available. North High School, 3620 W. 182nd St., Torrance.
  • SoCal RocSCROC has extended its enrollment until Wednesday, Feb. 10. Come into the CCC and sign up to speak with a SCROC counselor.

TESTING

·         Free practice tests all year long from Kaplan! View times and enroll at: www.kaptest.com/hsevents.

·         PJ TEST PREP is offering free practice SAT, New SAT and ACT tests on March 5, 10:00 am – 2:oo pm at the Hermosa Beach Holiday Inn Express. Results, free test strategy tips and information about the new SAT will be available following the test at 2:30 pm for students and/or parents. Please RSVP at www.pjtestprep.com/rsvp. Questions? SENIORS  

·         El Camino Assessment Testing at MCHS – If you have applied to El Camino College, you have an opportunity to complete your assessment testing at MCHS. Testing will take place on Thursday, February 11 at 10:00 am – 12:30 pm in Room 241. Reserve your spot on Naviance; seating is limited.

Please bring your El Camino Student ID.
