STUDENT INFO           

·      The library will be open until 2:30 TODAY, Tuesday and Thursday this week and will close at the end of school on Wednesday and Friday.

·      Students in fall semester classes should return their books to the library as soon as they finish finals. Students can check out spring semester books as soon as any outstanding fall books are returned. Please be sure to have your ID or a photo on your phone to check out books.

·      Do you like to sing? Come join the Mira Costa Men’s Choir or one of our all women’s choirs! Mr. Hayden can teach anyone to sing, so come join the Mira Costa Choirs!

  • The Neptunian Woman's Club of Manhattan Beach is sponsoring its 38th Student Art and Photography Contest for grades K-5 (art) and 6-12 (art and photography). Entry forms are available in the front office. Deadline for submission to the school office is February 22, 2016 before 3 pm. An awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 1 pm in the Neptunian clubhouse.

·      Author Marisa Reichardt, the wife of Costa teacher Jon Reichardt, has just published her first novel. Plan to come hear her speak during either AM or PM office hours on Feb. 10. You may also want to purchase a copy of her book. ·      Discover South Africa during Spring Break 2017: If you’re interested in this life-changing adventure, see Mr. Cox in room 410 or email [email protected] for details.

·      Winter Formal is here! The theme is “Manhattan to Manhattan,” and the dance will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Redondo Beach on February 6 from 8-11:30 pm. Ticket prices for Winter Formal are: with ASB single $38, couple $72; without ASB single $42, couple $80. Buy your tickets now before prices go up after TODAY.

·      Attention Students! Please remember to buy your Winter Formal tickets at the lower price! The lower price has been extended to TODAY, Monday 1/25.

SPORTS

·      Mira Costa Hockey: There will be a parent meeting on TONIGHT at 7:00 PM in Room 242 for anyone interested in playing hockey for Mira Costa. If you have questions, see Mr. Oystrick in room 242.

CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS

·      Wanna laugh? Yeah, we know you do. Come to Room 1 at lunch every Tuesday for Improv Club.

·      Mustangs, gallop down to Room 1 on Wednesday during lunch for Drama Club!

·      Girls Who Code meets TODAY in Room 116 from 3 to 4 pm!

·      Do you like anime? Or do you want to learn more/get involved in the anime community? If so, go to Anime Club in room 205 on Mondays (TODAY).

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

  • Multi-District Service Academy Day - The office of Congressman Ted Lieu is hosting this event for students 8th -11th grade, parents, and educators.  Listen to speakers from the United States Air Force Academy, United States Military Academy, United States Naval Academy, parents, and current attendees at each of the Service Academies. Representatives from multiple Southern California Congressional Offices will be available to answer all of your academy-related questions.                                             Sunday, Feb. 21, from 1pm – 4pm:

TESTING

  • Applerouth is offering a FREE ACT practice test at Mira Costa on Saturday, Jan. 30 from 10 am – 2 pm. To register visit:  https://www.applerouth.com/signup/?scheduleid=202229

·      SoCal Roc is beginning spring enrollment with classes beginning Feb.1. Schedules are available in the CCC.  Sign up in the CCC to meet with the SoCal Roc Counselor or drop in on Mondays (TODAY) during snack.                                                                                                                                                                                  

·      PJ TEST PREP is offering free practice SAT, New SAT and ACT tests on Jan. 30 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the LAX Holiday Inn Express. Results, free test strategy tips and information about the new SAT will be available following the test at 2:30 pm for students and/or parents. Please RSVP at www.pjtestprep.com/rsvp. Questions? SENIORS

·       El Camino Assessment Testing at MCHS – If you are planning to attend El Camino College, you have an opportunity to complete your assessment testing at MCHS. Testing will take place on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 10:00 am – 12:30 pm in Room 241. Reserve your spot on Naviance; seating is limited. Please bring your El Camino Student ID.
