STUDENT INFO           

  • Attention Musicians – Applications for the spring musical Pit Orchestra are now being accepted. Experienced pianists and rhythm section players are needed. For complete information and applications, visit mchspitorchestra.weebly.com.
  • Attention Italy Spring Break travelers and prospect travelers! Mandatory meeting on Friday, January 22, at lunch in Mrs. Choi’s room, 223.
  • Interested in building a solar powered boat and learning electrical/mechanical/environmental engineering practices? Come to an informational meeting in Room 242 at lunch on Thursday, January 21 or see Mr. Oystrick.
  • Come to the gallery (Room 60) this week during lunch to see a collaboration between Creative Writing and Art 2.
  • Attention Students! Winter formal permission slips are now available in Room 40, 41 and the student store.
  • 2016 LIP SYNC CONTEST IS TODAY at 7.00 PM in the auditorium!! Come, be entertained by your fellow Mustangs as they compete for Lip Sync title 2016!  4$ pre-sale tickets will be on sale at the dance team table at lunch. $5 tickets at the door
  • Hermosa Valley School is looking for HVS alumni to be Cabin Leaders for the 6th Grade Outdoor Science School in Malibu. Outdoor School will take place from Monday, Mar. 14 to Friday, Mar. 18. It may be possible to earn Community Service credits. The applicant deadline is Friday, Jan. 29. Please contact Mr. Hecker at [email protected].
  • Attention Students: Talent show auditions will take place on Monday, Jan. 25 and Tuesday, Jan. 26 in the auditorium from 1-4 pm.
  • Interested in going to London for Spring Break? See Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court, the bloody tower of London, Stonehenge, and Windsor Castle. SPORTS

  • Girls’ Lacrosse will be having their final tryouts on 1/20 & 1/21 at 4:30 – 6 pm at the stadium field. You must have a mouth guard to participate. Also, bring lacrosse stick, goggles, cleats and running shoes.
  • Baseball Tryouts for all freshmen and any new baseball players will be Wednesday 1/20 and Thursday 1/21 at 3 pm on the Baseball Field. Any questions, contact Coach Olson at [email protected].
  • Swim Team: Make-up Swim Team try-outs will be held on Friday, 1/22/16 at 4 PM. See Mrs. Santarosa in the counseling office for details.
  • Mira Costa Hockey: There will be a parent meeting on Monday, January 25 at 7:00 PM in room 242 for anyone interested in playing hockey for Mira Costa. If you have questions, see Mr. Oystrick in room 242.

CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS

·         Shut Up and Help:  Come help the homeless and earn community service hours every Wednesday at lunch in room 22.

·         K-Pop Club will be meeting this Thursday in room 74. Anyone is welcome.

·         Do you like Anime? To learn more or get involved, come to room 205 on Mondays.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

  • PSAT results are now available online at www.collegeboard.org. You will need to set up a College Board account if you don’t already have one. If you need an access code to view your results, we now have them in the CCC.  The score sheets should arrive in the CCC within the next few weeks and we will notify you as soon as they are available for pick up.
  • SoCal Roc is beginning spring enrollment. Spring Class Schedules are available in the CCC. Sign up in the CCC to meet with the SoCal Roc Counselor or drop in on Mondays during snack.
  • C2 Education will be offering free practice tests for the new SAT or ACT at any local C2 center during the entire month of January! Register online at: www.c2educate.com/new-year-new-sat-contest
  • PJ TEST PREP is offering free practice SAT, New SAT and ACT tests on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the LAX Holiday Inn Express. SENIORS

  •  El Camino Assessment Testing at MCHS – If you are planning to attend El Camino College, you have an opportunity to complete your assessment testing at MCHS. Testing will take place on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 10:00 am – 12:30 pm in Room 241. Reserve your spot on Naviance, seating is limited. Please bring your El Camino Student ID.
  • Mid-Year Reports – Some colleges require students to submit a mid-year report of their first semester senior grades. If a college you have applied to requests/requires a mid-year report, please complete the form attached in the link below and give it to your counselor.   • Scholarship Notebooks – We are fortunate to have many donors in the area that provide scholarships to Mira Costa students. In order to apply for these scholarships, you must attend the scholarship notebook meeting on January 21 and purchase the notebooks for $7. Please sign up on Naviance. All forms are posted on the MCHS website: college tabsenior to-do’sscholarship notebook.
  • The new FAFSA is now available online at fafsa.ed.gov.
