·         Homecoming News

o    The Homecoming Dance is next Saturday, Oct. 24! Hope to see you all there! Dress in attire from the decade of your choice.

o    Homecoming Tickets are now on sale! Go to the Student Store to purchase tickets with cash and checks; go to Room 40 to purchase with checks only.

Ticket Prices:

§  with ASB marker: Single, $9; Couple, $16; Group (4+), $8/person.

§  Without ASB marker: Single, $11; Couple, $20; Group (4+) $9/person.

Hurry because the price changes Monday, Oct. 19!

o    Next week is Homecoming Week! Make sure to dress up for ‘merica Monday, Tie-Dye Tuesday, Class War Wednesday, Team Thursday and Super Stampede Friday. Come to the Mustang Mall at lunch to see your court compete all week long!

·         It’s time for the PTSA Reflections Art Contest. This year’s theme is Let Your Imagination Fly. Students are to create an original piece of work based on the theme in one of these categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. National winners earn cash prizes and recognition. New this year, we will also award winners in each category at Mira Costa. Participation rules and required entry forms are available in the Admin Office or from your Visual and Performing Arts teacher. Remember, you can enter as many categories with as many pieces as you like. Please submit your projects to Admin Office (Ms. Gardner or Ms. Hoffman) no later than Friday, Nov. 13.  If you have questions or comments, please contact Ms. Annie Han at [email protected]. ·         Guess what day it is? That’s right, you guessed it!! Waldo Wednesday! Come by the quad outside the La Vista rooms to take part in the dopest picture you’ve ever been in!! Follow @Waldo_Wednesday.

·         Tedx Manhattan Beach is coming up on Saturday, Nov. 14! To get tickets, go to tedxmanhattanbeach.com. Tickets are $35 for all access pass or $15 for exhibit hall access. Come to the Mustang Mall on Friday for more information.

·         Like the idea of reciting poetry in front of a crowd? Then you should consider competing in Poetry Out Loud! December 10 will be the date of Costa’s fifth-annual recitation competition; contestants must memorize two famous poems – it just takes patience and repetition. Winners go on to compete for the title of LA County, entire state, then whole nation. See Ms. Sieker or your English teacher for more information!

·         Come see the play Check Please this Friday or Saturday! Tickets will be available every day this week at lunch in the Mustang Mall! Students $10, Adults $12.

·         Attention all Freshman-Senior siblings! Please come in to Room 48 to get your sibling photo taken for the yearbook. Come any day of the week (10/12 – 10/16).

·         If you would like to be a part of the Halloween-themed Art Show titled “000,” please submit your artwork to Room 62 by October 23! All forms of art welcome – drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and others.

·         Only a few spots remain to travel to Austria, Germany & Switzerland during spring break 2016. Talk to Ms. Owen in Room 15.

CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS  

·         Come to ASL (American Sign Language) Club this Friday in Room 232 in the math/science building.

·         Saving lives, preparing our communities for disasters and helping families in need is what we do! Come to Red Cross Club every Friday at lunch in Room 352B.

·         Come on down to Drama Club at lunch on Thursday! We will be talking about important drama events coming up. Hoopla

·         Science Olympiad meets on Wednesdays (TODAY) at lunch in Room 242.

·         Come to Pink Ribbon Club this Thursday at lunch in Room 78. We make care packages for patients with breast cancer at Torrance Memorial Hospital. New members welcome!

·         Interested in writing and storytelling? Come to the Creative Writing Club on Thursdays at lunch in Room 207. New members are always welcome!

·         Attention all Mustangs! Club Day is TODAY, Oct. 14! Don’t forget your money, and help support Costa clubs!!

·         Do you like making crafts? Come to Craft Club every Tuesday at lunch in Room 62.

·         Test Information

o    New SAT & ACT Combination Practice Exam – at Manhattan Beach Library, 1320 Highland Ave., Manhattan Beach.  Saturday, Nov. 7, 11:00 am – 2:45 pm. Become acquainted with the new SAT and check out the ACT exam as well with this comprehensive combination practice test. Space is limited; sign up at the MB Library Information Desk. Score reveal and strategies session: Monday, Nov. 16 at 6:30pm.

o    For Juniors taking the PSAT in October, Kaplan Test Prep will be hosting free online PSAT Cram Sessions to help students prepare for the upcoming New PSAT.
