STUDENT INFO           

  • See Ms. Park in Room 48 if you’re interested in going to Istanbul and a cruise through the Greek islands to Athens!
  • Come to Argentina & Brazil Spring Break 2017! Informational meeting, Thursday, 9/17 at lunch in Room 47, Mr. Chow’s room. Spots filling fast.
  • All NHS members, mandatory elections are Thursday (9/10) and TODAY, Friday (9/11) at Room 45 during lunch. You only ned to come on one of the two days, and candidate statements can be found on the NHS tab on the Mira Costa website.
  • The Geeks Club meets in the library lunchroom during lunch TODAY. Everyone is welcome. The Geeks are also hosting training sessions on the 3D printers on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 3 – 5 pm. Please ask at the library for more information, and RSVP that you are attending at bit.ly/3dprintsession.
  • Attention Mustangs and all snapchatters. There will be a snapchat Geotag competition schoolwide starting soon. For more information, see Mrs. Claypoole in Room 41.
  • For whoever created the Mira costa snapchat GeoTag, please see Mrs. Claypoole in Room 41 to be a part of the snapchat competition.

  • Any students who have an “excused 1st, 5th or 6th period” or surf team on their schedules need to come to the Guidance Office to get an Off-Grounds sticker placed on their student ID cards. Off-Grounds stickers will be issued before school, at snack, at lunch, or after school ONLY. Please do not come during class time. If you are stopped by the police without the Off-Grounds sticker on your ID card, you may be subject to a truancy citation.
  • New Zealand, Australia and Fiji – Spring Break 2017. Only eight spots left! See Mr. Geczi (Room 225) or Sra. Geczi (Room 72) for details!

SENIORS

  • Attention Seniors: Make sure to fill out your senior superlative form, which you should receive in your English class. Please return to Room 49 or Ms. Park’s mailbox.

SPORTS

  • Girls’ Lacrosse Tryouts – Weds., Thurs. & Fri. (TODAY)  (9/9-9/11), 3:00-4:30 pm. Meet at the bleachers. Bring running shoes, cleats, stick and goggles. You must have a mouth guard. No experience necessary.

CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS  

  • Do you like to dance? Have you ever wated to teach kids? Then come to Unity Dance Club in Ms. Choi’s Room 223 this Tuesday, 9/15, where you’ll have the opportunity to teach deserving elementary school students how to dance! All grades welcome! (Please note that our club usually meets on Mondays.)
  • (Interested in helping kids in Syrian refugee camps and other war torn countries? Come to the Children of War Club this Wednesday in Room 339, Mr. Calderon’s Room. Free pizza and drinks will be provided.
  • Help the homeless every Wednesday in Room 22 at lunch with club Shut Up and Help.
  • Come to Lend a Hand Club’s first meeting of the year TODAY! It’s an easy and fun way to get community service hours. Club meets every Friday in Room 72.
  • If you need community service hours and you also like spending time with kids, come check out Reading Partners Club in Room 14 this Tuesday, 9/15!
  • Attention Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, & Seniors: If you have an interest in protecting the environment, please come to Spo’s Room 352B. We meet Mondays at lunch.
  • Saving lives, preparing communities for disasters, and helping out families in need is what we do. Come join us at Red Cross Club, Fridays at lunch in Room 352B (Science Bldg.).
  • Come to Pink Ribbon Club this Thursday at lunch in Room 78. We make care packages for breast cancer patients at Torrance Memorial Hospital. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, this is the club for you! New members welcome!
  • Interested in making your own clothing or styling what you have? Join Fashion Club. Meetings are every Friday at lunch in Room 131.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

  • Seniors – Letters of Recommendation Workshop in the CCC Sept. 17 during lunch. Sign up on Naviance.
  • Save the date! Mira Costa’s College Knowledge Night will be on Sept. 21 from 7 to 9 pm in the Auditorium. All students and parents are invited to attend!

  • University of Washington Regional Event to be held at the Mira Costa Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 6,   6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. This is a special event for prospective Huskies and their families.   • PSAT REGISTRATION (Testing 10th and 11th Grades only) will be available at the Student Store on Sept. 15 – 17 during LUNCH ONLY; Sept. 18 during SNACK ONLY. Cost: $25; please make checks out to MCHS. The test date is Oct. 28.

Juniors taking the PSAT in October, Kaplan Test Prep will be hosting free online PSAT Cram Sessions to help students prepare for the upcoming New PSAT.
