- Sign up for the SAT Savvy now! The first session starts Feb. 7. Sign up by Jan. 23 to receive a discount. For more info go to satsavvy.info or Rm. 18, 331, or the CCC.
- Come watch the recitation of famous poetry at Poetry Out Loud. The competition is going down this Thursday in the library at 7 pm. Audience members are welcome to share a poem during the community open mic portion of the evening. Admission is FREE!
SPORTS
- Track tryouts are Thursday, Jan. 15. Please report to the track by 3:15 pm. Bring running shoes. Please see Coach Calderon in Room 346 if you have further questions.
- Swim Team tryouts will be held Friday, Jan. 23rd at 12:30 pm. Each participant will swim 100 Free and 200 IM. To sign up for tryouts, please see Mrs. Santarosa in the Counseling Office.
- Are you ready to try out for the second most played game in the WORLD? BADMINTON! (Soccer is #1.) Tryouts for both girls and boys either experienced or not, will be on Tuesday & Wednesday, Jan. 13 & 14, from 4 pm until 5:30 pm. All tryouts will be held at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club – 516 18th Street in Manhattan Beach. Questions? Ask Dr. Wilson in Room 234.
CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS
- NHS meets this Friday in the Gym. This meeting is not optional! All members MUST attend. Bring service forms or dues if you haven’t already!
- Come to Art Club Wednesdays in Room 62!
- Richstone Club meets Wednesday in Room 18.
- More than 80% of the developed world’s diet originated in the tropical rainforest. Come to Room 18 on Wednesdays to help maintain our food supply.
- The Library Club meets in the library lunch room during lunch TODAY.
- Philosophers! Join us this Wednesday (and every Wednesday!) in Room 53 at lunch to discuss opportunities for involvement in today’s philosophical world! There will also be an afterschool seminar Wednesday regarding the PLATO essay contest.
- Come to Debate Club Wednesday in Room 203. We will be discussing plans for Mid-Way Day.
- Come to Lend a Hand Club to learn how you can help homeless people in L.A. and get tons of community service hours too! Donate your warm clothes and come to meetings Fridays, Room 72 at lunch!
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
· PSAT results are available in the CCC for pick up.
· Seniors – If you are interested in submitting a Scholarship notebook, please sign up for one of the MANDATORY meetings on Naviance. Meetings will be held during lunch in the CCC on Jan. 15, 20, and 27.
· Juniors, sophomores and freshmen – The U.S. Naval Academy will be holding an information session in the CCC during lunch on Jan. 26. Sign up on Naviance or in the CCC.
· New SCROC classes start Jan. 26. Sign up in the CCC to register for classes with the SCROC representative. She is available on Mondays, periods 1–3 in the CCC.
· Juniors – Boeing summer engineering internship opportunity. This is a highly competitive internship that provides mentoring from an experienced engineer, hands on work experience, and workshops. If interested, a mandatory information meeting will take place in the CCC on 1/13/15 during lunch. Please sign up on Naviance for the meeting.

· Scholarship Opportunity – The American Legion Oratorical Scholarship Contest is accepting student competitors. State winners receive a four-figure college scholarship and are eligible for the National Competition awarding $14,000 – $18,000 in college scholarships.
