STUDENT INFO
- Galapagos Spring Break 2016 informational meeting in Room 47 (Mr. Chow’s Room) Friday, Jan. 9 at lunch. Stop by for information on a great trip.
- Frosh football players who have not received their backpacks may pick them up at coach Currier’s Room 222 at snack or lunch.
- Mandatory Poetry Out Loud lunch meeting for contestants in Room 44 this Thursday, Jan. 8.
- Ring in the New Year with a night of free poetry: Come watch Poetry Out Loud, a national recitation competition, Thursday, Jan. 15 at 7 pm in the library. There will be a community open mic while the judges tabulate…anyone can read a favorite poem or share their own writing!
- The library has some free discarded books available for students and teachers. Come by if you are interested.
- Talent Show Auditions on Thursday (1/8) and Friday (1/9) from 3 – 5 pm. You can pick up the form in Room 40/41; due TODAY, Weds. (1/7).
SPORTS
- Are you ready to try out for the second most played game in the WORLD? BADMINTON! (Soccer is #1.) Tryouts for both girls and boys, either experienced or not, will be on Tuesday & Wednesday, Jan. 13 & 14, from 4 pm until 5:30 pm. All tryouts will be held at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club – 516 18th Street in Manhattan Beach. Questions? Ask Dr. Wilson in Room 234.
- Swim Team tryouts will be held on Wednesday 1/14 at 3:30 pm. Each swimmer will be timed individually on 100 Free & 200 IM. Make-up tryouts will be 1/21/15.
- All freshmen and new players wanting to try out for the baseball team, meet at the field next Tues. 1/13, Weds. 1/14, Thurs. 1/15 from 3 to 5 pm for tryouts. For info, contact Coach Olson.
CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS
- Come to Debate Club TODAY in Room 203. We’ll be discussing plans for Midway Day.
- Make sure to head into Room 1 TODAY at lunch and enjoy Drama Club!
- Game Club meets this Friday after school in Rm. 40. Happy New Year, everyone!
- Young Philosophers Society meeting Wednesday TODAY at lunch in Mrs. Cabrera’s Room 53 for announcements and our continued discussion on Love & Friendship. Members: meeting after school Wednesday TODAY to continue prep for the PLATO essay contest!
- Come to the Give Back to the Children Club to learn how to give back to children in need. Mr. Kelley’s Room 332 on Thursday.
- Our food travels up to 1,500 miles from where it is grown to our plate. Come to the Urban Farms Project in Room 203 Tuesday to learn more. There will be pizza!
- Working on your artwork? Like to draw? Come to the Art room 62 at lunch TODAY, Jan. 7, for a special look at shading. Free admission, free supplies!
- The rainforest covers less than 7% of the Earth’s land surface, but it houses 50% of the world’s estimated ten million species of plants, animals and microorganisms. Come to Cuipo Club every Wednesday, TODAY.
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
· PSAT results are available in the CCC for pick up.
· Sign up on Naviance for the SMC information sessions to be held on Jan. 8 at 11:25 am in the CCC (for students that have not previously attended an SMC meeting), or at 12:20 pm – lunch in Room 241 (for students continuing the SMC admission process – featuring financial aid).
· Sign up on Naviance for the Yale University student ambassador visit on Jan. 8 at 1:00 pm.
· Online practice SAT & ACT will be offered by Revolution Prep on Saturday, 1/10: SAT 9:00 am – 1:00 pm or ACT 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. To register, call 877-738-7737, or visit www.revolutionprep.com.
· Seniors – If you are interested in submitting a Scholarship notebook, please sign up for one of the MANDATORY meetings on Naviance. Meetings will be held during lunch in the CCC on Jan. 15, 20, and 27.
· Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen – The U.S. Naval Academy will be holding an information session in the CCC during lunch on Jan. 26. Sign up on Naviance or in the CCC.
· New SCROC classes start Jan. 26. Sign up in the CCC to register for classes with the SCROC representative. She is available on Mondays, periods 1–3 in the CCC.
· Juniors – Boeing summer engineering internship opportunity. This is a highly competitive internship that provides mentoring from an experienced engineer, hands on work experience, and workshops. If interested, a mandatory information meeting will take place in the CCC on 1/13/15 during lunch.
