STUDENT INFORMATION
• New golfers, Boys golf tryouts coming up. See coach Timberlake or Fauver for paperwork and info in Room 202.
• The library will be open for students needing textbooks from 7:30 AM – 3:15 PM the first week of school. Students can come to get textbooks during class if they are sent by teachers, or during Snack, Lunch, before school (starting at 7:30 AM) or after school (until 3:15). The library will be open for regular library business starting the second week of school.
• Boys basketball tryouts for incoming freshman and students new to the school will be Tuesday, September 6 from 7-9 at Manhattan Beach Middle School. The tryouts are only for students who are not playing a Fall sport. Fall sport participants will be allowed to tryout after their current season ends.
• Reminder: SCROC does not start until September 6, 2011
• Attention all Girls! Soccer Tryouts Sept. 6th – 9th , 2:00 – 3:00 returning and 3:00-4:00 all new players
• Attention all girls, Basketball tryouts are being held in the gym from 2-4 on Sept. 8th, come tryout and bring gym shows.
• Any boy interest in tryouts for soccer, meet coach Smith in Room 26 after school, Tues. thru Friday, Sept. 13th thru 16th. Come ready to play
• The library is now open from 7:30 AM – 5 PM Monday through Thursday and 7:30 AM – 3 PM on Fridays, with occasional period closures for meetings. Mrs. Lofton, your Teacher Librarian, along with her student aides and volunteers, are available to help you until 3 PM each day. From 3 PM – 5 PM Monday through Thursday, Teachers Mr. McAvin and Mr. Zeoli staff the library, and walk-in tutoring is available from volunteer student tutors. Please have your ID for all library and textbook checkouts.
If you have checked out any textbooks that you find are damaged, please report the damage to the library by September 9, so that you won’t be held responsible when you return them at the end of the year. Also, please remember that any textbooks returned after the final day of the class will be charged a $5 per book fee. So, plan to return all your books on time this year.
Great library news this year is that we now have wifi in the library. Ask Mrs. Lofton for help getting on. And,
the library has back issues of magazines free for the taking. Come by and help yourself.
• Attention Juniors and Sophomores: if you excel in one or more subjects and would like to earn valuable community service hours that look so enticing to colleges, please see either Mr. Zeoli in room 23 or Mr. McAvin in room 5 or come by the library after school during the week of Tues. 9/6 thru Friday 9/9. We run the After-School Peer Tutoring program in which students tutor students and we’d like you to help us out as tutors. You’ll thank us when you get that acceptance to your dream school!
CLUBS / ORGANIZATIONS
• Attention all grades, there are 2 spots open on ASB. If interested in joining student gov’t, go to Room 43 and see Mrs. Claypoole.
• Attention all freshman!! If you want to be a part of ASB student government this year, please come to Room 40, Wednesday, Sept. 7th at lunch for freshman class officer meeting.
• Attention all NHS members: There will be an informational meeting for any members who may be interested in running for NHS office on Wednesday, Sept. 7th at lunch in Room 32. You can run for office even if you have not yet been inducted.
• Summer MUN’ers check with Mr. Timberlake for Santa Margarita Assignments.
• Please come to room 48 at lunch Wednesday, Sept. 7th for a Spain Trip Meeting!
• The Mira Costa GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) Meets Thursday, Sept. 8th at Lunch in Mr. Zeoli's Room, Room 23.
• California Scholarship Federation Membership Drive will begin on Monday, September 12th and end on September 24th. Eligibility lists are posted on the door of room 76 where you may pick up an application. Please check the CSF link on our Mira Costa website for more information.
SENIORS
• All seniors are required to have a minimum of 5 classes to graduate. If you have less than 5, see your counselor ASAP.
SPORTS
• Boys Volleyball-there will be a meeting at the beginning of lunch TODAY in Room 52 for all returning players and any students interested in playing Volleyball this spring.
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
• It’s time for the PSAT and PLAN testing! The PSAT will be given at MCHS Saturday, October 15th at 8am. The PLAN will be given at MCHS Saturday, October 22 at 8am (The PLAN is for sophomores only). Registration is September 12-16 during lunch at the student store. The cost is $25 (payable to MCHS) for each exam.
• ATTENTION SENIORS TAKING THE OCTOBER SAT AND JUNIORS TAKING THE PSAT:
On September 24th and 25th in Room 14 at Mira Costa High School, Cataylist Prep will be giving a SAT Bootcamp. You'll arm yourself with a strategy for every type of question guaranteed to be on the exam, and learn how to avoid the most common traps. The cost is just $165. • SENIORS:
College Visits: University of Chicago will be in the CCC on Wed., Sept 7th during period 5. Sign up to attend on Naviance.
The directions for requests for Letters of Recommendation are on Naviance and the Mira Costa High School website under College and Career Center. Please follow these directions carefully.
