STUDENT INFORMATION
• National Honor Society is having a book drive! Please bring any elementary level books to Room 32 by
May 9th. Thank you!
• The 3 winners of the 2011-2012 student planner custom cover contest are Graham Smith, with his drawing of paradise, Nicole White, with her game of “Mira Costa” scrabble, and Ramie Landis, with her drawing of Principal Dale. Congratulations to all who provided unique pieces to share with the school. We enjoyed every one!
• Attentions next year’s juniors and seniors: Now is your chance to sign up for student parking next year. Come to Guidance Office before/after school or during snack or lunch to sign up. Students are not allowed to sign up for their friends.
• 2011 Mira Costa Spring Percussion Festival: Enjoy a fun and exciting musical experience on Friday, May 6, 2011 in the auditorium. Percussion clinics will be held at 6:00 and 7:00 pm with an 8:00 pm concert of the Mira Costa High School Percussion Ensemble (doors open at 7:45 pm for the concert). Tickets are free for students and only $5 for adults for all the festival activities. Clinics will be lead by world-renown drummers Ron Powell (6:00, Brazilian Samba) and Lalo Davila (7:00, Afro-Cuban rhythms). Ron and Lalo will be working with clinic attendees on many aspects of musicianship, playing Latin and South American percussion instruments, as well as incorporating Latin rhythms into their playing styles. The concert will be the 3rd annual percussion studio concert and is always a huge crowd pleaser! See videos from last years concert on youtube: Timpanic Membrane and Stinkin Garbage.
• Guess which well-known MBUSD employee graduated from Mira Costa in 1977? Come see the library’s “Back to the 70’s” display to find out.
• Congratulations Richstone Walkers- Team MCHS came in 3rd place and raised a lot of money. Thank you to all who participated in raising over 2,000.00.
• SAT Savvy starts this Saturday in Room 18. Bring your pencils and calculators.
CLUBS / ORGANIZATIONS
• Please support the San Pedro Food Pantries by donating canned food items to boxes in classrooms and the office during our canned food drive from May 3rd through May 13th.
• Black Scholars Union meeting TODAY in Room 15.
• Pink Ribbon Club meeting TODAY at lunch in Room 67.
• Red Cross meets TODAY at lunch in Room 73. Bring any unsold bracelets!
SENIORS
• Seniors: Tickets for Finance Park or Magic Mountain are on sale now at the student store at lunch. You have until this Friday or you will not be able to go.
SPORTS
• Are you coming out for Spring Football? Please join us for an information meeting Thursday May 5th at lunch in Room 105.
• Sign-ups for the dodge ball tournament are this week. Teams should consist of 6 players and 1 alternate. Sign ups are $10 per team.
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
• Seniors signing up for Art scholarships should bring in a CD or portfolio of your art work. The CCC will submit your art along with your scholarship notebook to the various art scholarship donors.
• Attention Seniors Who Have Completed Scholarship Notebooks:
If you have not come in to the CCC to nominate yourself for the available scholarships, you must do so ASAP in order to have your book considered.
• A representative from So Cal ROC will be in the CCC Monday, May 9th during lunch to discuss the many courses offered next year ranging from Floral Design to Aerospace Engineering. Students from MCHS can take courses at So Cal ROC for free! Courses are offered during school, after school and in the evenings with bus transportation provided for many courses.
• All seniors are required to log on to their Naviance account and record their college applications, admission decisions, and the college he or she will be attending. This information is necessary for our school records and district reports, and to ensure that Scattergrams is accurate for future students. Instructions are being distributed this week in Senior English classes.
• Bring the signed copy of the Naviance college admissions page along with a copy of your acceptance letter from the college you are attending to the CCC during snack or lunch NO LATER THAN MAY 9, 2011.
A FINAL HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT WILL NOT BE SENT TO THE COLLEGE YOU WILL BE ATTENDING UNTIL THE CCC HAS RECEIVED THIS INFORMATION!!!!! Come to the CCC with any questions.
