STUDENT INFORMATION

• AP Commitment forms and Waiver forms are now available under News on the Costa Website (miracostahigh.org). These forms are to be turned in during lunch the week of April 11-15 at the student store.

• Attention STUDENTS!: Offered for the first time ever through MBAF summer school: UC/CSU-Approved Creative Writing

Indulge in 6-weeks of fun, introspective investigation as you refine your individual writing style while also examining the styles of various famous authors. Try your hand at writing screen-plays, poetry, narratives, and more. Incoming seniors, get your writing voice ready for (and get a head start on) those daunting and important personal-statements. Incoming sophomores and juniors, evolve your command of language and boost your confidence while readying yourself to spice up your academic writing for next year’s English class. Did you know that many colleges view Creative Writing as a fifth year of English? Impressive! So, register for MBAF’s Creative Writing course this summer, and come away with a portfolio you’ll want to flaunt. if you have any questions, stop by Room 4 and talk to Ms. Thornton.

• The annual student art show will be held at the Manhattan Beach Creative Arts Center April 23rd- May 5th. All students are encouraged to participate. Entries can be any medium. See Ms. Martin, Mr. Reichardt, or Ms. Zask in Room 116, 107 or 102 for more info and official entry form. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Deadline to submit work is Friday, April 1st.

• From the library: Don't forget to cast your vote for California Young Reader-nominated books. The deadline to vote is March 31. Come by the library or vote on the library blog. Everyone who votes will be entered in a prize drawing.

• Last days of Custom Cover Contest
To enter, submit your vision of Mira Costa in any medium (pencil, paint, graphics, etc.) in a 5 x 8 format to Shari Humphrey in the admin. bldg. by March 31st. Express yourself using any colors, designs, and school appropriate creativity. All entries will be displayed, and faculty and students will each have 1 vote to nominate the three winners. The contest is open to all current Mira Costa students. Previously submitted designs are welcome. You may enter as many pieces as you want. Prize: $100.00 American Express Gift Card.

• Don’t forget to cast your vote for the 2011-2012 California Young Reader Medal nominees. If you read Hunger Games, The Adoration of Jenna Fox, and Unwind, you can vote for this year’s medalist. Come by the library or visit the library blog to access the ballot. The deadline to vote is March 31. All students who vote will be entered in a drawing for a copy of one of next year’s nominees.

• Please Help Japan: The Relief Japan 2011 Fund is an organization created to assist Japan raise money for the damages caused by the earthquake and tsunami. Any donations, even a penny, would help. Please place donations in the box in Mrs. Geczi’s room, Room 47.

• Fashion Show meeting- Attention all models selected to participate in the MCHS 2011 Fashion Show. There is a meeting TODAY, March 30, 2011 at lunch in Room 112. Please bring lunch. Ladies please bring high heels. There is a space available for male models. Attention Male students: If you are interested in participating in the upcoming fashion show please come to the meeting.

• Interested in being in ASB Student Government next year? You must come to a meeting at lunch Thursday 3/31 in Room 40. Hope to see you there!

• Students wishing to park in the student lot, see Ms. Gardner in the Guidance Office.

• Chances for Children organization is hosting a free seminar about the dangers of texting while driving. Tonight in the Manhattan Beach library at 7:00 pm. Please come!


CLUBS / ORGANIZATIONS

• Do you want to cheer your Mustangs on to victory next year? Do you love to dance? Well here’s your chance to take your talents and share them with us all. Tryouts for the MCHS Cheer and Song Squads are just around the corner. Pick up a tryout packet in the Main Office or visit our website www.mchspepsquad.com.

• Relay for Life Club is looking for bands interested in competing in a battle of the bands at the relay on May 14th. Contact Jenny Anderson: [email protected].

• Our last career presentation, Careers in Medicine, is TODAY, March 30 in the CCC during lunch. This Career Day features physicians, a medical social worker, and a physical therapist. All students are welcome to attend. No sign ups required.

• Attention NHS members: Don’t forget that we have a meeting this Friday, April 1st at lunch in the auditorium. If you are unable to attend, see Mrs. Wachell after the break in Room 32.

• Come to Drama Club TODAY at lunch in Room 1.

• Come to Invisible Children Club TODAY at lunch in Room 26. All are welcome!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

• A rep for The Summer Business Institute, a business and leadership training program will be in the CCC this Thursday at lunch. This is a good summer opportunity offered at a number of college campuses including Loyola Marymount and UCLA and USC.

• The “Debra Bowen for Congress Campaign” is looking for interns to help with her bid for Congress. This is an opportunity to gain valuable political experience and learn how a congressional campaign is run. More info is available in the CCC or email the campaign office at [email protected].
• Seniors signing up for Art scholarships should bring in a CD or portfolio of your art work. The CCC will submit your art along with your scholarship notebook to the various art scholarship donors.
