STUDENT INFORMATION

• WANT THE PRESTIGE of having YOUR ART on the cover of MIRA COSTA’s STUDENT PLANNER NEXT YEAR AND WIN a $100 American Express GIFT CERTIFICATE? 3 Mira Costa students’ art will be featured on next year’s student planner cover, and each of the 3 artists will win a $100 American Express gift card!

To enter, submit your vision of Mira Costa in any medium (pencil, paint, graphics, etc.) in a 5 x 8 format to Shari Humphrey in the admin. bldg. by March 31st. Express yourself using any colors, designs, and school appropriate creativity. All entries will be displayed, and faculty and students will each have 1 vote to nominate the three winners. The contest is open to all current Mira Costa students. Previously submitted designs are welcome. You may enter as many pieces as you want.

• The start date for the Artesia Street Project was pushed back to this Monday 3/21. If they hold true to this date, you should start seeing placards along Artesia on Friday dealing with parking issues.

• SAT Savvy Intensive Test Prep- Register by March 18th for Session II now if you want the discount for the May 7th test. Info available in the CCC, Room 18 and Room 50.

• Congratulations to Alexandra Guggisberg, who won the drawing for the Library Teen Tech Week scavenger hunt. Alexandra is receiving an iTunes gift certificate.

• Please note that the library will be closed during the school day TODAY and Friday. It will be open as usual after school from 3 – 5 PM TODAY.

• Please return any overdue library books NOW so that other students have access to them. Thank you.

• The California Scholarship Federation Membership Drive is March 1 – 18th
All applications must be turned in to Mrs. Cunningham in room 76 by the March 18th deadline.
CSF Seniors: Don’t forget this membership period is the last one you need to become a sealbearer at graduation!

• Come to Dessert Theater TONIGHT at 7:00 pm at the O’ Donnell Hall! (1400 Deegan place, American Martyrs). We’ll be showcasing the scenes, monologue, and improv teams that we’re bringing to the Fullerton Drama Festival! $7 at the door

• To all students who submitted entries for the Reflections or Neptunian Art Contest, please pick up your work in the Guidance Office as soon as possible. Thank you.

CLUBS / ORGANIZATIONS

• Come to the Invisible Children Club TODAY at lunch in Room 46! All are welcome.

• Come to the St. Patrick’s Day noontime theatre at lunch in Room 1 TODAY if you’re feeling lucky!

• French Club meets TODAY at lunch in Room 206.

• Come to Lend a Hand Club TODAY at lunch in Room 41 and join in our effort to aid the homeless.

• Come to Foreign Film Club TODAY at lunch in Room 19.

• Relay for Life Club meeting TODAY in Room 35. All are welcome!

• New Life Christian Club meeting TODAY in Mrs. Manago’s room, Room 66.

SENIORS
• Applications for Senior Graduation speakers are now available through Mrs. Lee-Iwai and will be due on March 25th.

SPORTS

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
• Friday is Careers in Science and Engineering Day at lunch in the CCC. All students are invited to hear scientist and engineers from Northrop, Chevron and the Aerospace Corporation.

• The city of Manhattan Beach is accepting applications for the Manhattan Beach Youth Recognition Award. This scholarship is awarded to MCHS juniors and seniors who have volunteered in the community. Information is available in the CCC. Applications can be found at www.citymb.info. Applications are due in to the City of Manhattan Beach by Monday, March 21, 2011.

• The Princeton Review will be offering practice AP exams in the Mira Costa High School Library on Saturday, March 26th. These tests are being offered to students for free! Princeton Review will provide all registered students with a proctored exam and a complete score report emailed home within 2 weeks of the test. For those students who wish to have their short answer/long answer/essay portion graded with comments and suggestions from our AP tutors, there is an optional charge of $50 per test. A limited number of seats and tests are available, so students must pre-register at www.princetonreview.com/events. • Senior Scholarship Opportunity:
Torrance Medical Center is looking for scholarship applicants interested in majoring in health related majors such as Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Speech Pathology. Please come to the CCC or go to www.torrancememorial.org for more information. Applications are due March 18, 2011.

• Register on Naviance for the following College Rep Visits in the CCC:

• Volunteer Opportunity:
A helpful information meeting will take place on Tuesday March 22, 2011 from 6:30-7:30pm. in the Manhattan Beach City Council Chambers. Come learn the unique features of Leadership Manhattan Beach, a great community service activity. Meet student and adult alumni. More information is available in the CCC and at www.leadershipmb.org. Online applications are due Tuesday, April 26, 2011.

FACULTY

• TODAY is Recycling Thursday. Please have a student take your classroom bin to the recycling center on Stadium Way behind Room 74. Thank you.
