STUDENT INFORMATION
• Any student who is sick MUST go to the health office to be released from school. If your parents come to school to pick you up for illness, they will be directed to the Health office, you need to be in the health office. The attendance office will not release you!!
• Jesse Owens was the first African American track and field athlete to win four gold medals in a single
Olympiad.
• Presentations about the course expectations for AP and Honors courses are being held over the next few weeks during lunch. If you are interested in taking any AP or Honors course you must attend the meeting for that course. The following is a list of dates for all of the course's presentations:

• WANT THE PRESTEIGE of having YOUR ART on the cover of MIRA COSTA’s STUDENT PLANNER NEXT YEAR AND WIN a $100 American Express GIFT CERTIFICATE? 3 Mira Costa students’ art will be featured on next year’s student planner cover, and each of the 3 artists will win a $100 American Express gift card!
To enter, submit your vision of Mira Costa in any medium (pencil, paint, graphics, etc.) in a 5 x 8 format to Shari Humphrey in the admin. bldg. by march 31st. Express yourself using any colors, designs, and school appropriate creativity. All entries will be displayed, and faculty and students will each have 1 vote to nominate the three winners. The contest is open to all current Mira Costa students. Previously submitted designs are welcome. You may enter as many pieces as you want.
• Any new players interested in trying out for the Baseball team, tryouts will be Mon. 2/14, Tues.2/15, and Wed. 2/16 on the baseball field at 3pm. If you have any questions contact Coach Olson in Room 203.
• Would you like to send a song to your special someone? Coterie will be selling singing Valentine-grams outside the student store at lunch TODAY!!
• Starting TODAY, students that have an “excused 1st,5th or 6th period” or surf team on their schedule need to come to the Guidance Office to get an “Off -Grounds sticker” placed on their student ID card. Off-grounds will be issued before school, at snack, at lunch or after school only. Please do not come during class time. If you are stopped by the police without the Off- Grounds sticker on your ID card, you may be subject to a truancy citation.
• Redondo Beach sister cities is inviting Mira Costa students who are interested in participating in an exchange with their sister city in China. If you are interested in going to China during Spring Break on a sister city exchange, see Mr. Mancilla for further info. Deadline is February 20th.
• AP students: Did you miss registering for the AP exams? There will be late registration TODAY at lunch only at the student store. An additional fee of $15 for each exam will be charged.
• GSA and Student Body...Interested in going to our nation's capital to learn more about advocating for safe schools? Meeting amazing people and making lifelong friends? Telling your congressperson and senators why ALL students deserve to be safe in school? Then apply for GLSEN's Safe Schools Advocacy Summit March 27-29, 2011. Apply online and receive all expenses paid. See Ms. Tower for details.

• Lend-a-Hand Sock Drive! Please bring in a pair of new socks to help warm feet of those in need! Collection will continue through February; collection boxes can be found in the office, library, and ASB Room.
• The MCHS Comedy Sportz Team is competing against Long Beach Poly TODAY at 7:00 in Room 1! Come enjoy a night of crazy, improvised, chuckle your buckle fun. Cost is $5 at the door. All proceeds go to the auditorium for tools
• Come to Food Critics Club TODAY at lunch for some good food and mellow vibes in Room 50
• Come to Room 205 for Satirical Newspaper Club, TODAY at lunch. Bring your stories, ideas and rapier-sharp wit.
