STUDENT INFORMATION
• Neptunian Woman’s Club Music and Writing Contest - The Neptunian Woman's Club of Manhattan Beach is participating in a statewide music and writing contest sponsored by the General Federation of Woman's Clubs and the Marina District #18 of the California Federation of Woman's Clubs. For the music contest, categories are Vocalist, Pianist, and Instrumentalist. Entries must be submitted on a CD and will not be returned. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2011. Applications can be picked up in the office or can be printed off the Mira Costa website.
• Hermosa Valley School needs HVS alumni to be cabin leaders for the 6th grade Outdoor Science School in Malibu. The Outdoor School will take place from Monday, March 14th to Friday, March 18th. Application deadline is Friday, January 28th. Please contact Mr. Hecker at [email protected].
• Reminder to students who have parking permits: Please park in student parking areas only-- do not park in the staff lot or you will be ticketed. Thanks, Ms. Gardner.
• Calling all future male and female models!!! Have you ever dreamed of walking down the runway in glamorous couture? We are now looking for male and female models for the upcoming 2011 Mira Costa High School Fashion Show! Auditions will be held during lunch on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011 in the fashion classroom Room 112. Ladies please bring your high heels.
• Reminder 1/26,1/27,1/28 Semester exam schedule, minimum day
• Our beloved maintenance man Marvin “BEEP BEEP” Choi will be retiring this Tuesday, Jan. 25th after 30 years of service to the students and faculty of MCHS. Please join us in giving him a proper send off by thanking him and wishing him well when you see him around campus.
• This is No Name Calling Week. January 24th-28th ~ Words hurt...more than that...they have the power to make students feel unsafe to the point they are no longer able to perform in school...or conduct normal lives. Stop by the Library and browse the display of books on this theme~
• Students in semester classes, please be sure to return your books to the library this week.
• Congratulations to the Mira Costa Cheerleaders for their great performance this past weekend at Long Beach State University. Good luck at Nationals in Florida!
• SAT Savvy test prep is beginning February 5th. Last chance to sign up. 18 hours of instruction and four practice tests. Come to Room 18, 50 or the CCC for more info.
• Detention schedule for remainder of the week: Wednesday, January 26th 12:30-1:30, Thursday January 27th 7-8.
• Redondo Beach sister cities is inviting Mira Costa students who are interested in participating in an exchange with their sister city in China. If you are interested in going to China during Spring Break on a sister city exchange, see Mr. Mancilla for further info. Deadline is February 4th.
• Attention all 10th grade students: you will be taking the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) on Tuesday, February 1st and Wednesday, February 2nd, at 8:00 a.m. The exam will be given in your homeroom class. Your homeroom class is the same homeroom class you had every Friday last year in the second semester. If you do not remember or do not know your homeroom teacher and room number, please check the list posted on the windows of the Administration Building or the windows of the Library. Please take the time to check the list before Tuesday morning, February 1st so that you will know which classroom you are to report to for testing. Your ID card will be required for testing.
CLUBS / ORGANIZATIONS
• Literary Club will be meeting TODAY in the library. New members welcome! Snacks will be provided!
• Come to Habitat for Humanity Club TODAY at lunch in Room 20. New members welcome!
• Friendship Circle will meet TODAY in Room 114. We will not meet on Thursday! Good luck to everyone on their final exams!
• All Badminton players- please meet at lunch TODAY in Room 57.
• Come to Improv Club TODAY at lunch in Room 1. Also, thank you to all who came to the Comedy Sportz last Friday. We raised $797 for MBMS Drama!
• Come to Room 5 at lunch TODAY and join in on Team LA’s discussions and festivities.
SENIORS
• Attn Seniors: If you applied to Cal State Channel Islands you need to submit an official transcript by Jan. 31 in order for your application to be considered complete.
Other Cal State campuses will notify you through your web portal account if they need a transcript.
• College Mid year reports are due to your guidance counselors no later than Feb. 4th. Please get them in on time.
SPORTS
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
• A representative from El Camino will be set up at a table in the quad today.
A representative from El Camino will be here Tues, Feb 1st 9am – 12am to help students with their application. Sign up in the CCC. Students must have their SS# with them to complete the application.
FACULTY
• Teachers, please be sure when you send students to the library to give them a pass and to have them show it to me on their way in. Thank you.
