STUDENT INFORMATION

• Neptunian Woman’s Club Music and Writing Contest - The Neptunian Woman's Club of Manhattan Beach is participating in a statewide music and writing contest sponsored by the General Federation of Woman's Clubs and the Marina District #18 of the California Federation of Woman's Clubs. For the music contest, categories are Vocalist, Pianist, and Instrumentalist. Entries must be submitted on a CD and will not be returned. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2011. Applications can be picked up in the office or can be printed off the Mira Costa website.

• Track try outs open to any student who hasn’t ran track before, TODAY, 1/11/11, Wed. 1/12/11, Thurs. 1/13/11 at 3:15 pm. Meet at track prepared to run

• Swim Team tryouts for students not currently enrolled in Water Polo or 6th period Swim will be held after school at 3:15 on TODAY, 1/11 and Wednesday, 1/12. Come to the pool and be ready to swim.

• Tryouts for the MCHS Badminton team will be held TODAY and Tomorrow, January 11th and 12th from 4-6pm at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club. See Dr. Wilson in Room 57 for details.

• Reminder Tomorrow, January 12th is a faculty meeting schedule, zero period does meet, first period starts at 9am.

• Students that signed up for a chance to compete on the Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Show-We need you to come to the guidance office TODAY during snack or lunch to pick up your application packet. You must complete the application/paperwork, have it signed by your parents and returned to the office ASAP.

• Thank you to all who filled out the 2011 Winter Formal survey, due to the lack of interest we will not be having one this year. However, we will consider having one next year.

• SoCal ROC (SCROC) enrollments for Spring semester classes are in full swing. You can get applications in the CCC and counselors office. Great new program in Dental Assisting for juniors. Classes in all career pathways.



CLUBS / ORGANIZATIONS

• We will now be accepting club day forms for the club day which will be taking place on Wednesday the 19th. .

• If you like fashion and helping the community then come to Charitable Couture Fashion Club TODAY in Room 223.

• TLC (The Library Club) meets during lunch in the library meeting room TODAY, January 11th. Please bring your lunch and arrive promptly. We will also have refreshments. New members are welcome.

• Friendship circle meets TODAY in Room 114. Pizza will be served.

• Animal Rights Club meeting TODAY at lunch in Room 46. Make sure to show up because the yearbook photo will be taken.

• Country Lovers Club meets TODAY in Room 51.

• Come to Room 5 at lunch TODAY and join in on Team LA’s discussions and festivities.


SENIORS

• Attn Seniors: If you applied to Cal State Channel Islands you need to submit an official transcript by Jan. 31 in order for your application to be considered complete.
Other Cal State campuses will notify you through your web portal account if they need a transcript.

• Attention Seniors: Students wanting to create a scholarship notebook must attend an information meeting in the CCC. The next two options will be Friday, January 14th or January 20th. Students must attend one of these meetings in order to participate in the scholarship notebook process. Students completing a notebook will be considered for local community scholarships


SPORTS

• Snack bar will be open at 2pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the Girls Water Polo JV tournament.

• Wrestling Dual Meet against West Torrance @ MCHS on Thursday, January 13th starting at 3:00 pm


COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

• A Freshman student from Harvard will be here to discuss her experiences Thursday, January 13th during period 2! Sign up on Naviance.

• A representative from El Camino will be in the CCC Wednesday, January 19th during period 3.

• There will be a Financial Aid Workshop on Wednesday, January 19th at 6:30 pm in the auditorium to discuss filing the FASFA. All students and parents filing for financial aid are encouraged to attend.

• A representative for the U.S Marines will be in the CCC, Wednesday, January 12th at lunch to discuss Navy and Marine ROTC Scholarship opportunities. Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to attend.
