STUDENT INFORMATION
• Neptunian Woman’s Club Music and Writing Contest - The Neptunian Woman's Club of Manhattan Beach is participating in a statewide music and writing contest sponsored by the General Federation of Woman's Clubs and the Marina District #18 of the California Federation of Woman's Clubs. For the music contest, categories are Vocalist, Pianist, and Instrumentalist. Entries must be submitted on a CD and will not be returned. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2011. Applications can be picked up in the office or can be printed off the Mira Costa website.
• Mira Costa Students- are you the next Top Chef? Do you have strong cooking skills? We will need YOU! We are trying to put together 30 interested culinary arts students for a cooking competition on Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution show. If you are interested, please see your counselor ASAP.
• SAT Savvy Test prep session one sign ups are here. 18 hours of instruction and 4 practice tests starting February 5th. If you come for the 1st session, you can come and review at the other sessions. Come to Room 18 or 50 for more info.
• Audition packets due for spring musical All Shook Up TODAY, Friday January 7th. Please sign up in Room 1 to sing on Monday.
• All students going on the France trip with Mrs. Gonalons this year, come to a mandatory meeting TODAY at lunch in Room 207.
• Track try outs open to any student who hasn’t ran track before, Tues. 1/11/11, Wed. 1/12/11, Thurs. 1/13/11 at 3:15 pm. Meet at track prepared to run
• Swim Team tryouts for students not currently enrolled in Water Polo or 6th period Swim will be held after school at 3:15 on Tuesday, 1/11 and Wednesday, 1/12. Come to the pool and be ready to swim.
• Try outs for MCHS Badminton Team will be next Tuesday, Jan. 11 and Wednesday, Jan. 12 from 4-6 pm at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club. See Dr. Wilson in Room 57 for details.
CLUBS / ORGANIZATIONS
• We will now be accepting club day forms for the club day which will be taking place on Wednesday the 19th.
SENIORS
• Attn Seniors: If you applied to Cal State Channel Islands you need to submit an official transcript by Jan. 31 in order for your application to be considered complete.
Other Cal State campuses will notify you through your web portal account if they need a transcript.
• Seniors- Be sure to make an appointment with your counselor ASAP for any required schedule adjustments you may need for second semester.
SPORTS
• Water polo will have the snack stand open at the pool, TODAY, Jan. 7th at 2pm.
• Boys Tennis; There will be a brief but very important meeting of the Boys Tennis Team at the beginning of lunch TODAY in Room 120. Please be prompt!
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
• Attentions seniors: Students wanting to create a scholarship notebook must attend an information meeting in the CCC. The next two options will be Jan 14th or Jan 20th. Students must attend one of these meetings in order to participate in the scholarship notebook process. Students completing a notebook will be considered for local community scholarships.
• The Fall and Summer application for El Camino will be available online January 10th. A representative will be in the CCC January 19th during period 3 to discuss programs at El Camino. Students are encouraged to apply to El Camino as soon as the application is available.
• The Navy and Marine ROTC Scholarship info meeting has been rescheduled from this Friday to next Wednesday, January 12th at lunch. This info meeting is open to all juniors and seniors.
