STUDENT INFORMATION

• Reminder: TODAY is back to school night.

• Attention all current Juniors at Seniors interested in National Honors Society: We are currently accepting applications for the new school year. You must have a 3.6 academic unweighted GPA to be eligible to apply. Applications are available on the school website. Current NHS members need not re-apply. The deadline for all application materials is October 1st; please submit applications to the new NHS faculty advisor, Mrs. Wachell, in Room 32.

• Attention students interested in National Honors Society: The Mustang Morning News mistakenly reported that a 3.7 GPA is required for eligibility. The minimum cumulative academic GPA is actually 3.6.

• Volunteer at Hometown Fair for community service hours. The Beach Reporter is looking for student volunteers to help at the Hometown Fair T-shirt booth. There are 4-hour shifts available on both Saturday and Sunday, October 2 and 3, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. These hours qualify for community service. Interested students can send an email with their time/day preference to Paul Silva at [email protected].

• It’s Banned Books week come by the library to see the Banned Books display and enter the Banned Books week contest, and don’t forget to participate in the library student survey. Visit the library blog for details.

• MCHS Cheer and Song will be holding tryouts for the 2010-2011 season. If you missed tryouts in April or transferred late it’s not too late to join. Pick up a packet in the main office today. Tryouts will be held Tuesday, October 12th- Thursday October 14th 3:30-5 pm.

• Spain trip parent meeting in Room 48 on Back to School Night!! Please have your parents head over to Room 48 after visiting your 6th period class.

CLUBS / ORGANIZATIONS

• Key Club meeting TODAY in Room 6. Come for great community service opportunities.

• Come to Stand Up to Cancer Club in Room 65 on Friday during lunch. There will be sweets!!

• Friendship circle will not meet today due to minimum day. We will meet tomorrow, Friday at lunch in Room 114.

• Baby Help meeting TODAY in Room 36! New members are welcome! Hope to see you there!

• Baja Club meets TODAY in Room 35.

• Come to Foreign Film Club TODAY at lunch in Room 19.

• Lend a Hand Club meeting TODAY in Room 41. Help us in our effort to aid the homeless.

• New Life Christian Club meeting TODAY in Mrs. Manago’s room, Room 66.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

• Seniors and Juniors- Many colleges and universities are coming to campus. For a list of schools and to sign up to attend these presentations, log onto Naviance and click on colleges. Your Naviance user name is your first and last name (no spaces) and your password is your 5 digit Costa ID. Make sure to get prior permission from your teacher before attending these college presentations.

• The Washington University St. Louis Danforth Scholarship is offered to students who have exhibited service and leadership, academic excellence, and taken a rigorous academic curriculum. They are particularly looking for students who exhibit maturity and selflessness. If you would like to be considered for this scholarship, come to the CCC by September 30.

• Teachers you should have received a pack of flyers regarding the friendship walk. Please pass out to your 2nd period class. Encourage your kids to sign up! It benefits the Friendship Circle, a program that benefits the lives of kids with special needs as well as the Ed foundation. The more money we raise the more jobs we can save so encourage everyone to sign up!
