STUDENT INFO

·         Students! TODAY is our first home Football game. Students who present a current student ID with an ASB marker will be admitted free. All others must pay $8. If you purchased an ASB Marker, but it is not reflected on your Costa ID, see Mrs. Cessor in the ASB Finance Office for an updated card. Those who purchased ASB But have not updated their card or those with lost IDs will pay $8 to enter.

·         Thailand 2020 Spring Break: Meetings in Room 234 at lunch every TUESDAY in September (9/3, 9/10, 9/17, 9/24). Lots of info to share about this Amazing Adventure in community service.

·         California Scholarship Federation Fall Membership Drive will begin Monday, Sept. 16 and end on Friday, Sept. 27. Come by Room 243 during the membership drive to get more information and pick up an application. You can also check the Costa website for more information. Keep up the good work, Costa!

·         Join MBUSD students, teachers, administrators, and community members in spreading peace and positivity to the South Bay. We will be observing International Peace Day on Saturday, Sept. 21 by Standing in the Sand 4 Peace & Climate Action! The event begins at 8am on the MB pier, followed by participants forming the word PEACE in the sand, captured by aerial photo. We encourage everyone to stay after and participate in Coastal Clean-up Day, hosted by our friends at Heal the Bay, Round-House Aquarium, Grades of Green & Southbay Cares from 9am to noon.

·         Join us at the TEDx Manhattan Beach talks, BOLD Vision, on Nov. 2 at MCHS. The event includes short but provocative 10-minute talks, fun and interactive exhibits, breakfast, snacks and lunch. Ethan Nahlinder, Costa student and musician, is a scheduled presenter. Purchase tickets at TEDxManhattanBeach.com before they sell out. Student discounts are available.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·         Hey! Interested in donating a bit of your time to help children in the hospital? Come to Children’s Hospital LA (CHLA) Club Mondays at lunch!

·         Are you interested in animals and the environment? Join the Wildlife Warriors Club! We offer volunteer hours, education in environmental and animal sciences, and much more! Speak up for those who can’t speak. Email [email protected] for info.

·         H.E.A.R.T. Club meets every FRIDAY (TODAY) in Room 56. New events to share!

·         Are you interested in or want to learn about Engineering? Do you like building things and making them go fast? Then join Solar Boat Club where we work as a team to build a solar-powered boat and compete with teams across California! Come to our first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Sept. 17 in Mrs. Weaver’s Room 112.

·         If you are interested in pursuing a career in medicine or fundraising for local hospitals, come to Medical Society Club on Thursdays in Room 332.

·         If you participate in an Arts elective at Costa, go to shorturl.at/tJ269 and fill out this survey for La Vista!

·         Friendship Club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch in Room 115.

·         Please join the South Bay Food Initiative at Project Chicken Soup on Sunday, Sept. 15 to cook and/or pack lunches from 8 am to 12 pm. You can earn four hours of community service. For more information or to sign upk, please visit www.southbayfoodinitiative.com.

·         College Essays – If you’d like a CCC counselor to revise your personal statement or personal insight questions, bring by a double-spaced copy to the CCC. Be sure to include your name, email, and the prompt to which you are responding.

·         College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

·         SoCal ROC

SoCal ROC fall semester classes have begun, but it's not too late to enroll in a class! Earn high school elective credits while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a variety of careers. Choose from classes related to Art & Design, Engineering & Design, Finance & Business, Health Sciences and Public & Consumer Services. Classes are free and transportation is provided for our 12:45pm and 3:45pm classes. Your SoCal ROC career guidance specialist will be on campus in the CCC next Wednesday, Sept. 18 during AM Office Hours. Drop in during that time and she can answer any questions or accept applications from interested students. Next week is the deadline to enroll!

·         JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES – THIS IS THE LAST WEEK FOR ON-TIME PSAT REGISTRATION ($25)

The test will begin at 7:00am on October 30 at MCHS. To register online, please go the MCHS website and click on the MCHS ASB Webstore in the upper right-hand corner or use this link: https://mchswebstore.myschoolcentral.com.

In-person registration (credit card, cash or check to MCHS) will be available TODAY during snack and lunch in the CCC. On-time Registration cost is $25. Your final opportunity for LATE registration will be September 16 and 17 online or in person during snack or lunch in the CCC. Late registration cost is $35. After you register online, bring your receipt to the CCC to pick up your PSAT Study Guide. Please contact the CCC (ext. 5253) with any questions.
