· Scholar Quiz Registration opens Feb. 6 at 6:00 am. Registration is On-Line at https://www.miracostahigh.org/apps/form/form.MIRCOSHS.qHectyo.hA. This link can be found under the Latest News section of the MCHS website. Selections will be made on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of grade, and will be time stamped upon on-line registration. The Scholar Quiz dates are March 12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 20. Only 64 teams will be guaranteed entry. All others will be placed on a list of alternates. Questions? Contact Laurie Baker at [email protected].
· Registration for AP Examinations is available online NOW through Feb. 8. Late Registration online will begin Friday, Feb. 1 at 3:00 pm. Walk-in registration will be available at the Student Store during LUNCH ONLY. On-time registration: Jan. 28 – Feb. 1. Late registration: Feb. 4 – Feb. 8.
· Come on out Friday to see if Costa Boys’ Basketball fans can be louder than Peninsula fans! Friday, 1/18, 8pm tip-off versus Peninsula at MBMS. Wear your green Costa gear – we’ll have VOX DJs, fun green giveaways and our amazing Cheer and Dance teams!
· It’s time for the California Scholarship Federation spring membership drive. It continues TODAY through Friday, Jan. 25. Pick up applications in Room 243 during that time. Associate Membership will be open to freshmen during this drive. Remember Seniors, you need one semester of senior grades!
· Students who have excused periods (other than zero period): Spring semester Off-grounds stickers will be available this week in the main office at snack, lunch, or after school ONLY. You MUST have a current school ID to get a sticker, and you must get a new sticker for the spring semester.

· College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign-up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

· Sophomores and Juniors –
o If you took the PSAT in October your printed score reports are now available for pick-up in the CCC.
o PSAT, Now What? Presentation Thursday, Jan. 24, 5:30pm – Mira Costa High School College & Career Center. The PSAT is a student’s first step in the standardized testing and college application process. When utilized properly, the PSAT can propel students on their journey to college. Learn how to interpret the PSAT score report, what your child’s PSAT scores indicate about their future SAT/ACT performance, how the National Merit Scholarship Competition works, and more. Jean Stroud, Academic Advisor at Revolution Prep, will explain. Please bring your student’s PSAT score report. Both parents and students are encouraged to attend. Please sign up on Naviance or in the CCC, as seating is limited!

Scholarship Notebook Program:
The scholarship notebook is a personal profile that will be read by members of community scholarship committees. Each scholarship committee creates their own criteria for selection and carefully screens the applicants to find the appropriate candidates for their scholarships. The scholarship donors are looking for students who may meet ANY of the following criteria:
•Have financial need
•Plan to attend a two- or four-year school or trade school
•Have completed numerous volunteer hours
•Plan to study a particular major (i.e. Art, Dance, Business, English)
•Deserve a merit award for excellent grades
•Have a talent that the committee wishes to honor
•Meet any number of additional criteria!
For students to be eligible to apply, they must attend ONE informational meetings in the CCC during lunch – the last meeting is TODAY. Students must sign-up on Naviance prior to the meeting to attend. Please bring $5 to purchase the notebooks.

· Summer Programs –
o Junior Girls – American Legion’s Girls State Program is seeking applicants. American Legion Girls State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high-school students. It is a participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government. If selected, students attend the week-long program on June 24. If you would like to be considered for this program, please bring a copy of your resume/brag sheet to the CCC by Wednesday, February 6.
o Juniors Boys - American Legion’s Boys State Program is seeking applicants. American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high-school students. It is a participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government. If selected, students attend the week-long program at Sacramento State University beginning on June 22nd, 2018. For more information visit: https://www.legion.org/boysnation/stateabout. If you are interested in being considered for the Boys State program, please stop by the CCC to pick up an application. Applications are due in the CCC by: Friday, February 1.
