FACULTY
· Please release the following students this week: TODAY 12/13 – Girls’ Water Polo (Varsity/JV) at 1:30 pm; Wrestling Teams at 12:45 pm (see emailed list of students)
STUDENT INFO
· Audition packets for the spring musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, are due Thursday, 12/20. Be sure to grab your packets in the Woodshop (Room 104) or Drama Room 1. We would love to see you audition.
· Nervous about auditioning for the Spring Musical? Come to the Audition Workshop on January 5. Check the @MCHSdramatechdepartment Instagram for times and location. We highly recommend coming if you are even slightly interested.
· Looking to play some Jazz at Mira Costa? Our second Jazz Band, Jazz II is starting up in January. We have a brief information meeting on Friday, Dec. 14 at lunch, starting at 12:30 pm in Room 4. Sign-ups are in Room 4 on the office door for all Guitar, Piano, Bass and Drum Set players who are interested.
· Attention Poets: Poetry Out Loud applications are due to Ms. Sieker in Room 44 by Thursday, Dec. 20!
· The Mira Costa Choirs’ Winter Concert, This Shining Night, will be performed in the MCHS auditorium on Friday, Dec. 14, at 7:00 pm; $10 suggested ticket donation at the door, students and seniors free. There will be a box set up outside the auditorium to collect donations of new toys, books, or stuffed animals for our holiday toy drive. Don't miss this wonderful night of choral singing. We look forward to sharing the talents of our amazing young singers with you at This Shining Night!
· Costa Varsity Boys’ Basketball plays Palos Verdes Friday night, 12/14 @ 7:30pm at MBMS. Come out to support the team and get free Mendocino Farms food! We'll have a student tailgate at 6:45 pm with free Mendocino Farms sandwiches for the first 100 students, plus VOX DJs and the Dance Team at the game! Wear green & gold. Go Costa!
· Attention Costa! On the Monday before finals (12/17), Link Crew is hosting their annual stress-less dress-up PJ Day! We hope everyone (yes, including staff) will join us with their slippers, robes and cozy clothes in order to have a fun day right before finals.
SPORTS
· Boys’ Golf Tryout Meeting on Friday, 12/14 in Room 410 at lunch.
· Do you want to play for the Costa Badminton Team? Tryouts are January 9 and 10 at 4:00 to 5:30 pm. Come to Badminton Club Mondays in Room 332 for more details!
CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
· Last chance to submit poetry, prose, photography, and artwork to be published in Mira Costa’s Literary Magazine, Papercut. Email submissions to [email protected].
· Come to American Sign Language (ASL) Club in Room 74 on Fridays at lunch to learn new signs, make new friends, and eat yummy snacks. Can’t wait to see you there!
· Interested in joining Costa’s Badminton Team? Come to Badminton Club to learn more! Meetings are every Monday in Room 332.
· The Animal Shelter Club is having a blanket and towel drive until Winter Break. Please help the dogs, cats and rabbits of the Carson Animal Shelter by dropping off gently used blankets and towels to the collection box in Room 16!
· Come to the Support Our Students Club TODAY at lunch in Room 234 to make cards/care packages for sick/injured Costa students!
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

· SENIORS – Visit the CCC for College Application Assistance:
o College Personal Statement Revision – Please bring in a hard-copy of your essay if you would like feedback from one of the counselors. Typically essays are completed within 2-3 business days.
· Summer Programs – It’s not too early to check out summer programs. Go to the MCHS website→College Tab→Jobs & Internships→Summer Programs or use the link: https://www.miracostahigh.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=349754&type=d&pREC_ID=759373
· Eve and Gene Black Medical Mentor/Internship Application is now open: Students work under the supervision of a health care educator, shadowing various medical professionals (nurse, nutritionist, pharmacist, lab technician, physician and/or medical specialist, etc.) who together provide a range of patient care and services. The application is available to print at: http://www.lapedsoc.org/summer or pick up a copy in the CCC.
o Age & Grade Requirement: Applications are accepted from high school students who are currently in the 11th or 12th grade AND born on or before 4/1/03 or meet the older age requirements of their selected facility. See Application and/or Facility Address & Requirement List for specific facility requirements.
o Program Dates: There are 2, 3 and 4-week programs available from June 24 - August 30, 2019. See Application and website for specific date information. Only the medical facilities listed on the application participate.
o Submission Instructions and Application Deadline: The original set of required documents and 1 copy of this entire set must be sent by US Mail ONLY and mailed by Wednesday, FEBRUARY 18, 2019.
o Applicant Notification: All students will be notified if accepted or not VIA EMAIL by Wednesday, April 3. If a student is not contacted by that date, they have NOT been accepted.
o No Fee: There is NO FEE required to participate and if a financial need exists, a selected participant may request a stipend to cover program expenses, such as transportation.
· SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the Spring 2019 semester. Classes begin Monday, Jan. 28. Come to the CCC to sign up and learn more about the classes we offer.
