·      Hello Mustangs! Spirit Days for this week are: Millionaire Monday (TODAY); Tropical Tuesday (10/9); Wild West Wednesday (10/10), Tailgate Thursday (10/11) and Class Wars Friday (10/11). Prizes will go to homerooms that have more than 50% participation each day!

·      Attention Mustangs! The MCHS Homecoming Dance “Dreamland” is this Saturday, Oct. 13! The evening includes dancing, games and snacks. Buy tickets in the Student Store at lunch and nutrition. Make sure to attend the last dance in the Gym! Pick up your permission forms at the Student Store or ASB Room for details.

·      Come to the Gallery Room 60 to see a new Art Show from Art 2/3. The show, Heroes, is a collection of portraits. Open every day until Oct. 12.

·      Art Night is back for a second year! All students are invited to sell their artwork or crafts at the 2nd annual fall Art Night. Sign up at: http://bit.ly/costaartnight. There will also be crafts for all to participate in. Art Night at Mira Costa will be held this Friday, Oct. 12, 5-7pm in the quad by Room 109. All students, faculty and staff are invited to bring friends and family for a fun evening of art!

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

·      Come to Drama Club every Wednesday at lunch in Room 1 for your Drama/Tech Department announcements and information!

·      Come to Improv Club every Tuesday (TODAY) at lunch in Room 1! You’ll find the meaning of life here!

·      Mira Costa Gender Sexuality Alliance meets every Thursday at lunch in Mr. Zeoli’s Room 23. Meet a group of loving and supporting people, engage in activist work to help make campus a more accepting environment, and raise funds for various charities and organizations.

·      Come to the Support Our Students Club in Room 234 Thursday at lunch to help make cards and care packages for sick/injured Costa students.

·      Come join the Ribbons for Cancer Club every Tuesday (TODAY) at lunch in the La Vista Room 101! We work to spread cancer awareness and raise money for research.

·      Want to join a club that puts your baking expertise to use? Then join Baking Club in Room 45 On Tuesdays (TODAY) at lunch, where we raise money for charities of your choice by holding various bake sales!

·      Math Club meetings are held every Tuesday (TODAY) at lunch. Come to Room 131 if you want to improve your skills, learn new concepts, and compete against other mathletes. All levels of math are welcome!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·      PSAT – TOMORROW, Wednesday, October 10 at 7:00am. If you registered for the PSAT please check for your room assignment posted outside of the main office now. Please report to your assigned room NO LATER than 6:55am and bring: Two #2 pencils, Student ID or photo ID, Calculator (any four-function scientific or graphing calculator). Any questions, please contact the CCC.

·      College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign-up to attend on NAVIANCE. Please bring your school ID.

·      SENIORSVisit the CCC for College Application Assistance:

o  College Personal Statement Revision – Please bring in a hard-copy of your essay if you would like feedback from one of the counselors. Typically essays are completed within 2-3 business days.

o  Walk-in Wednesdays for help with applications, essay revisions and to have your questions answered! No appointment necessary. Walk-In Hours are on Wednesdays, from 3PM to 5PM.

o  Application Workshops in the CCC  Please sign up for the presentations on Naviance (under “College Visits” tab)

·      STEM Opportunity for Junior Girls

The STEM Goes Red program for the 2018-2019 school year will be selecting 80 female high school juniors and invites you to apply to be part of this free enrichment program. STEM Goes Red participants will have the opportunity to attend a speed-networking session with female leaders in LA, a storytellers’ workshop with media and entertainment executives in February, a job shadow day with a mentor in research and in a hospital setting, and a Go Red For Women signature event in the spring. Through this program, we will support participants throughout the year, provide experiences and resources that you can include on your college applications and resumes. We will also have optional ways for you to engage over the summer and/or over your senior year. ·      Testing:

·      SoCal Roc is now enrolling for its 9-week courses: Adobe Suite (After Effects, Animate, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), Business Entrepreneur, and ITCC-Welding. Classes begin Nov. 13. Sign up in the CCC & speak with a SCROC counselor.
