STUDENT INFO

·         Attention Students! Come to the Quad at lunch on Wednesday 5/9 for the reveal of Prom 2018’s theme! Prom ticket sales will start on Thursday 5/10!

·         The Comedy Sportz team has a match against Redondo Union High School on Friday, May 11 at 7 pm. Come support!

·         Independent Study Athletics (ISA) REMINDER – Applications for the 2018-19 school year are DUE on or before May 16! The application is on the school’s website under ATHLETICS!

·         The Counseling Department will be accepting ANY course request changes now through May 24. Come see or email your counselor. After May 24 there will be NO changes to student requests. Just before Registration (8/15 – 8/16), class schedules will be released to your student MBUSDapps.org Gmail accounts.

·         LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF THE BEACH CITIES is looking for a current 11th-grade student to be the 2018-2019 senior student representative to the 2018-2019 League’s Board. Activities may include submitting a monthly school report that includes activities at school that have addressed government, environment, health, homelessness, and education. If you are available you will help with voter registration at school, on National Voter Registration Day, and at the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair. ·         Friday, May 18 is Art Night, an evening of arts and crafts. All students are welcome to attend, and sell their artwork or crafts. Activities include button making, T-shirt screen printing and face painting. Friends and family are also invited. The event will take place at Mira Costa outside Room 109 from 5-7 pm. ·         Costa Pride Day is coming up! Need Volunteer hours? Want to help beautify Costa? We need lots of volunteers for Costa Pride Day on Saturday, May 19. We have plants to plant and clean up and beautification that need your help to transform our campus! Show your Mustang Pride by coming to help make Costa campus look great! Meet at the Cafeteria on May 19 at 9:30 to receive instructions. Pride Day runs from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm. Please contact Laurel Ulrich with questions: [email protected].

·         The ASB Finance Office and Student Store are closed TODAY, May 8.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

·         College Visits -  Please sign-up on Naviance:

    • WED 5/9 University of Hawaii College of Engineering at 12:26 pm (PM Office Hours); El Camino College Appointments from 9:30am-1:00pm. Please sign up for your appointment in the CCC.

·         El Camino College Career Mini Fair – Wednesday, May 9 at 9:30am-11:30am  Considering a career in Engineering Tech, Automotive Tech, Cosmetology, HVAC, Welding, or becoming an Emergency Medical Tech? Don’t miss the El Camino College Career Mini Fair in the CCC! Check out these programs and learn information from the El Camino staff representing each of these programs. All grade levels and parents are welcome!

·         JUNIORS: Want an insiders’ view to the College application process? The Mira Costa High School College & Career Center invites the Junior Class to the Case Study College Night and Mini College Fair on Tuesday, May 15 at 6:00 pm – Check in at 5:30 pm outside the Cafeteria. Parents and students will be led through various mock admissions committees to gain insight and understanding as to what is valued in an application. This event is an engaging and effective way to discuss the college application process with college admission representatives from around the country. A college mini fair with over 20 different private and out of state colleges will be held in the Cafeteria immediately following this event, beginning at 7:15 pm. Space for the Case Study activity is limited to 150 juniors and ONE parent/guardian per student. Students must sign up through Naviance – Log into your Naviance account, click on college tab→click on view all upcoming visits→sign-up. The mini fair is open to all students and parents, no sign-up required.

·         SENIORS:

*Important*– All graduating seniors are required to complete the Senior Clearance process by submitting their post-high school plans. Please complete the following steps and BRING COPIES to the CCC by May 18

­If you are planning to enter a 4-year or Community College:

1.       Updated Naviance college admissions results page. (Go to the College tab. For colleges that you did NOT end up applying to, mark as “withdrawn.” For colleges that you applied to and did not get into, mark “denied.” For colleges you applied to and got into, mark “accepted.” Finally, indicate which school you are going to attend at the bottom of the page.

2.       Completed senior survey (on Naviance, under the “About Me” tab)

3.       Acceptance letter from the school you will be attending. This process will ensure that your final transcript will be sent to the school you plan to attend in the fall.

If you are planning to work, enter the military, take a gap year, or travel:

1.       Stop in the CCC to let us know your plans.

Duke-Georgetown-Harvard-Penn-Stanford Exploring College Options – Student/Parent Information Sessions in Los Angeles – Sunday, May 20 at 7:00 pm at the Westin Bonaventure, 404 S. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles 90071. Register at: http://www.exploringcollegeoptions.org.

·         SoCal Roc is now enrolling for an El Camino Summer Bridge course (classes begin July 9) and the Fall 2018 semester (classes beginning September 10). Come to the CCC to sign up and learn more about the Summer Bridge course and the classes we offer.
