· Come support La Vista at the H.B. Chipotle from 4-8 pm on Monday night, April 30. Remember to bring in a flyer or mention La Vista.
· NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE? Collect travel size toiletries from your friends, neighbors and families and assemble hygiene kits for LUNCHES WITH LOVE. Our next delivery is Sunday, May 6. · Did you know Mira Costa offers Engineering classes? In these creative environments, students work together to learn the basic concepts of Engineering. Along with promoting collaboration, these classes allow students to design and build different innovations. From hydraulics to robotics, this class is a great opportunity for students to learn and enjoy their elective. Students take tours, hear from industry speakers and can receive valuable internships all while engaging in once-in-a-lifetime experiences like learning hands-on how a fire truck works, launching rockets, building electrical circuits and more! See Mrs. Weaver in Room 112 or your counselor for more information.
· All students, staff, family and friends are invited to attend the 18th Annual All Media Art Show this Friday, 4/27 at the Resin Gallery in Hermosa Beach from 5 to 7 pm. One night only; don’t miss it! Resin Gallery is located at 618 Cypress Ave., Hermosa Beach.
· Next Year’s Seniors 2018-2019! This is the last week to sign up for the student parking lottery for the 2018-2019 school year. The window to register will close on Monday, April 30. There will be no late sign ups. Interested students should register online at the MCHS ASB Web Store. There is no cost; you will receive a receipt for registration. Please review the Parking Permit Guidelines posted on the MCHS Website before registering.*Please note: This is a lottery for students who will be seniors ONLY. It is NOT first come/first served. If you are selected you will be notified via email and provided further instructions. Any students having difficulty registering online should contact Donna Cessor in the ASB Finance Office.
· Independent Study Athletics (ISA) REMINDER: Applications for the 2018-2019 school year are DUE on or before May 16! The application is on the school’s website under ATHLETICS!
SENIORS
· It is time to vote for the 2018 Sand Acre Teachers of the Year! All Seniors, please come out to vote for your favorite nominees on Monday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 1 at snack and lunch outside Room 40 (ASB).
CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
· Come to the Toyota Sports Center on Saturday, April 28 for an ice-skating fundraiser to support Costa’s Share the Care Club!
· Come to CPK in Manhattan Village on Thursday, April 26 and show the flyer found on our Instagram (@mchs_makeawish) to raise money for Make-A-Wish.
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
· College Representative Visits In The CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign up to attend on NAVIANCE.
o TODAY, 4/25 – El Camino College at 9:30am-1:30pm. Sign up for your ed plan appointment or drop in with questions.
· El Camino College Career Mini Fair – Wednesday, May 9 at 9:30am-11:30am Considering a career in Engineering Tech, Automotive Tech, Cosmetology, HVAC, Welding, or becoming an Emergency Medical Tech? Don’t miss the El Camino College Career Mini Fair in the Mira Costa CCC! Check out these programs and learn information from the El Camino staff representing each of these programs. All grade levels and parents are welcome!
· JUNIORS: Want an insiders’ view to the College application process? The Mira Costa High School College & Career Center invites the Junior Class to the Case Study College Night and Mini College Fair on Tuesday, May 15 at 6:00 pm. Parents and students will be led through various mock admissions committees to gain insight and understanding as to what is valued in an application. This event is an engaging and effective way to discuss the college application process with college admission representatives from around the country. A college mini fair with over 20 different private and out of state colleges will be held in the Cafeteria immediately following this event, beginning at 7:15 pm. Space for the Case Study activity is limited to 150 juniors and ONE parent/guardian per student. Students must sign up through Naviance – Log into your Naviance account, click on college tab→click on view all upcoming visits→sign-up. The mini fair is open to all students and parents, no sign-up required.
· SENIORS:
College Commitment Day is May 1 – Wear your college gear and come to the Mustang Mall Stage at lunch to place your sticker on the map.
*Important*– All graduating seniors are required to complete the Senior Clearance process by submitting their post-high school plans. Please complete the following steps and bring copies to the CCC by May 18:
—If you are planning to enter a 4-year or Community College:
1. Updated Naviance college admissions results page. (Go to the College tab. For colleges that you did NOT end up applying to, mark as “withdrawn.” For colleges that you applied to and did not get into, mark “denied.” For colleges you applied to and got into, mark “accepted.” Finally, indicate which school you are going to attend at the bottom of the page.
2. Completed senior survey (on Naviance, under the “About Me” tab)
3. Acceptance letter from the school you will be attending, or verbally tell us your plans for next year (taking a gap year, job, military, traveling, etc.)
This process will ensure that your final transcript will be sent to the school you plan to attend in the fall.

1. Stop in the CCC to let us know your plans.
· SoCal Roc is now enrolling for the Fall 2018 semester. Classes begin September 10. Come to the CCC to sign up and learn more about the classes and meet with the SoCal Roc Counselor.
