STUDENT INFO
· First Art Show of the year! Now open in the gallery, Room 60, AP Studio Art presents “Pieces we Procrastinated On.” Open at lunch and back to school night, 9/7.
· Calling all parents, teachers and kids age 7–99! Please join us for a remarkable opportunity to listen to and engage with Bill Nye, a national science hero, and Gregory Mone, a children’s novelist and science journalist. This event is brought to you by {pages}, MBEF and MBUSD, at no cost to our community! We invite you to join us for this exciting evening of exploration on Sept. 13 at 6 pm in the Mira Costa High School Auditorium, where Nye and Mone will speak about the nature of science in the world around us and answer questions from the audience. · Attention all Club Council leaders: There will be a meeting TODAY, 9/5 at lunch in Rooms 40 and 41 for all new clubs and returning clubs.
· Comedy Sportz Auditions are Thursday, Sept. 7 at 3:15 pm in Room 20! Be sure to grab an audition form and sign up in either Room 1 or Room 20!
· Costapalooza! Homecoming! Friday, Oct. 20, at lunch. Know of a great student band? Let us know! This year, Costapalooza will feature one student band on the Quad during lunch. To be considered, email the name of your band, your members, contact information and a sample of your music to Ed McKeegan ([email protected]) no later than Friday, Sept. 15. Team Costa reps will vote on the band to perform. Bands must have a minimum of three musicians. At least one member must be a current Costa student. Bands can bring their own equipment/set up, or we’ll provide it for you.
CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS
· Together We Tutor: Come to Room 19 at lunch on Wednesday to learn how you can tutor underprivileged students in basic math!
· Comedy Sportz: Legend says that if you say, “Improv Club every Tuesday during lunch in Room 1” three times in front of a mirror, a good time will appear.
· Drama Club is every Wednesday during lunch in Room 1! Arrive and get information about interesting things happening in the Drama/Tech Department.
· Come by Room 74 or lunch this Thursday for our first Black Scholars Union (BSU) meeting of the year. We have a lot of new, fun events planned so we look forward to seeing you. All new members are welcome!
· Attention Link Leaders: Our first meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 6 in Room 102 (near the cafeteria) at lunch. We will be celebrating orientation, discussing September goals, and announcing the photo contest winners! See you there, leaders!
· Come to the first GALS (Girls Advancing Leadership in STEM) Club meeting next Friday, Sept. 8 in Mrs. Hearn’s Room 350 at lunch. Our goal is to help younger kids and ourselves learn about and become involved in the STEM field. We’d love to see you there.
· Interested in engineering? Come learn about Mira Costa’s Solar Cup Team at lunch on Wednesday, Sept. 6 in Ms. Weaver’s Room 112 and help build a boat that runs on solar power!
· Math Club is the only club that counts. Come to Room 131 on Tuesdays during lunch.
SPORTS
· The Mira Costa Wrestling Team is looking for freshmen boys and girls to join our CIF Champions Wrestling Team. If interested, come by the wrestling room after 6th period and talk to Coach Chaney.
· Girls’ Lacrosse tryouts are this week: TODAY, 9/5, Wednesday, 9/6, Thursday, 9/7 from 3-4:30 pm and Friday, 9/8 at 12:30 pm at Pennekamp. No experience necessary, but you must have a mouth guard. Please also bring lacrosse stick, goggles, cleats and running shoes. If you are in a fall sport but want to try out, please email [email protected].
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
· JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES - PSAT REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN ONLINE
The test will begin at 7:00am on October 11 at MCHS. To register online, please go the MCHS website and click on the “PSAT” icon OR the “Store” tab and select ASB Webstore.
In-person registration will be available September 13, 14, and 15 in the CCC.
Registration cost is $25. Your final opportunity for LATE registration will be September 18th and 19th online or in person during lunch in the CCC. Late registration cost is $35. After you register online, bring your receipt to the CCC to pick-up your PSAT Study Guide. Please contact the CCC with any questions.
· So Cal Roc is still accepting applications for the fall 2017 semester. Classes begin Sept. 11. Come to the CCC to sign up and learn more about the classes we offer.
· College Representative Visits in the CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend.
