· Calling all parents, teachers and kids age 7–99! Please join us for a remarkable opportunity to listen to and engage with Bill Nye, a national science hero, and Gregory Mone, a children’s novelist and science journalist. This event is brought to you by {pages}, MBEF and MBUSD, at no cost to our community! We invite you to join us for this exciting evening of exploration on Sept. 13 at 6 pm in the Mira Costa High School Auditorium, where Nye and Mone will speak about the nature of science in the world around us and answer questions from the audience. · Attention all Club Council leaders: There will be a meeting on Tuesday, 9/5 at lunch in Rooms 40 and 41 for all new clubs and returning clubs.
· Comedy Sportz Auditions are next Thursday, Sept. 7 at 3:15 pm in Room 20! Need some help before auditions? Learn tips from people on the team at the Audition workshop on Monday, Sept. 4 in Room 20 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Pick up an audition packet in Room 20 by Sept. 7!
· Hey, everybody! Wear your Stampede Shirt TODAY & join your fellow students on the mound at lunch for fun and games.
· Students: Check your books NOW and report any damages (missing pages, water damage, writing, etc…) within 2 weeks to avoid being held responsible. You must come to the Library to report any damages. According to the new school-wide policy, this year you MUST have your physical Student ID with you to check out any library or textbook materials.
CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS
· Come to Friendship Circle Club! If you enjoy making lasting friendships, hanging out and having a good time – all while earning community service hours – this is the place for you! Every Tuesday and Thursday in Room 115 (CORRECTION). The first meeting is next Tuesday, 9/5.
· Attention Link Leaders: Our first meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 6 in Room 102 (near the cafeteria) at lunch. We will be celebrating orientation, discussing September goals, and announcing the photo contest winners! See you there, leaders!
· Come to the first GALS (Girls Advancing Leadership in STEM) Club meeting next Friday, Sept. 8 in Mrs. Hearn’s Room 350 at lunch. Our goal is to help younger kids and ourselves learn about and become involved in the STEM field. We’d love to see you there.
· Interested in engineering? Come learn about Mira Costa’s Solar Cup Team at lunch on Wednesday, Sept. 6 in Ms. Weaver’s Room 112 and help build a boat that runs on solar power!
· Math Club is the only club that counts. Come to Room 131 on Tuesdays during lunch.
· Ping Pong Club meets every Friday (TODAY) at lunch in the Fisher Gym. Come and play Ping Pong!
· Come to Game Club and explore all of the possibilities. If you like poker, dungeons and dragons, or console gaming, this is the place for you! Fridays (TODAY) after school in Room 40. Everybody is welcome.
SENIORS
· Senior ads go on sale starting TODAY, Sep. 1. Prices will go up on Oct. 1, so make sure to get your ad in ASAP! Email ads to [email protected] and pay on the student store website. For details, go to mchshoofprints.weebly.com. The final deadline is Dec. 1!
SPORTS
· Girls’ Lacrosse tryouts are next week: Tuesday, 9/5, Wednesday, 9/6 , Thursday, 9/7 and Friday, 9/8. Meet at Pennekamp from 3 – 4:30 pm Tues through Thurs and at 12:30 pm on Fri 9/8. No experience necessary, but you must have a mouthguard. Please also bring lacrosse stick, goggles, cleats and running shoes. If you are in a fall sport but want to try out, please email [email protected].
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
· JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES - PSAT REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN ONLINE
The test will begin at 7:00am on October 11 at MCHS. To register online, please go the MCHS website and click on the “PSAT” icon OR the “Store” tab and select ASB Webstore.
In-person registration will be available September 13, 14, and 15 in the CCC.
Registration cost is $25. Your final opportunity for LATE registration will be September 18th and 19th online or in person during lunch in the CCC. Late registration cost is $35. After you register online, bring your receipt to the CCC to pick-up your PSAT Study Guide. Please contact the CCC with any questions.
· So Cal Roc is still accepting applications for the fall 2017 semester. Classes begin Sept. 11. Come to the CCC to sign up and learn more about the classes we offer.
· College Representative Visits in the CCC – If visit is during class please get teacher permission to attend.
This is an opportunity to learn about your schools of interest and meet the admission counselors. View all visits and sign-up to attend on NAVIANCE.
